About This Pub
Ah, The Joker and The Thief, what a delightful little spot on Elm Row! It's one of those pubs that just gets it right, you know? From the get-go, you're greeted by staff who are genuinely chuffed to see you, creating that easy-going vibe where conversations flow as freely as the pints. They've nailed the drinks selection, focusing on local brews and quality whiskeys that pair brilliantly with their fresh pizzas – and they've got options for different dietary needs, which is always a plus. The atmosphere is spot on too, with cosy nooks, good music, and quirky film memorabilia that gives it a unique charm. Events like the Wednesday pub quiz or Thursday magic shows are absolute highlights; they're free and add a bit of excitement without any fuss. On the flip side, those varying Sunday hours might leave you scratching your head if you're not checking ahead, and it can get a tad crowded on busier nights, making it harder to snag a seat. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a relaxed evening out – honest, unpretentious, and just what you need after a long day wandering Edinburgh's streets.

Great friendly space. Near to "everything ". Ultra friendly staff and extremely fair affordable prices. Wonderful atmosphere. Lovely selection. Highly recommended.
Genuinely best pub in Edinburgh. Tennents and Guinness are second to none and the staff are the best you can get and absolutely great people. Cannot recommend enough! 10*.
Lovely pub near to the centre. Friendly staff, good beers, good music, decently priced, loads of film memorabilia on the walls and Just over 10 quid for 2 pints. We went early Sunday evening in November and loved it. Would definately recommend. Good memorabilia on the walls too
I like my bars in the style of the old school bar and this one fits the bill. Craft beers, good whiskey and a no nonsense style. The ambiance is just right and the clientele too. The bar staff are amazing and made me feel right at home. The Joker IPA hit the spot. They also care about the background music they play and that was just right too. I love this bar and if I could pack it up and take it home I would. It’s dog friendly and if they accept dogs then the will accept you.
I am very happy to call it my local pub.
really nice atmosphere, good music all time and very honest prices for the pints.
highly recommended!
