About This Pub
Ah, Joseph Pearce – it's one of those spots in Edinburgh that just feels like a hidden gem with its Swedish twist on classic pub fare. I've got to say, the staff really make the place; they're so approachable and eager to help, whether you're grabbing a quick drink or settling in for a meal. The food is where it shines brightest – think mouthwatering meatballs with mash and gravy, or burgers that hit the spot, and they've nailed the dietary options too, which is brilliant for groups with different needs. It's dead central, easy to pop into after a day of shopping or wandering around, and being dog-friendly means you can bring your furry mate along for the fun. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few grumbles about things not being as spotless as they'd like – like dusty windows or the odd dead fly – which can put a dampener on things. The inside can feel a bit subdued sometimes, and if you're after upbeat tunes, you might find it a touch mellow. Still, with all the positives, it's worth a visit; just keep expectations realistic and maybe check it out on a busier night for that extra buzz. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed catch-up with mates, and I'd definitely pop back for another round.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
The food is a real highlight – those Swedish meatballs and burgers are spot on, with great options for vegans and gluten-free folks too.
-
It's dog-friendly and family-friendly, plus there's outside seating for when the sun's out, which is always a bonus in Edinburgh.
-
The location is spot on, just a short stroll from Princes Street and the city centre, perfect for a post-work pint or meal.
-
With a solid 4.3 rating from loads of reviews, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a good time, especially for events like birthdays.
Cons
-
Some areas could do with a bit more cleaning, like the bar and windows – it's a shame when little things like that detract from the experience.
-
The atmosphere inside can be a tad quiet at times, and the music selection might not always hit the mark for a livelier crowd.
-
Occasionally, the food doesn't quite come out as expected, such as a steak being overcooked, which is a pity given how tasty the rest is.

Friendly service. Love the Leith Juice. Bar and windows need a good clean. Inside quiet. Music could be better. Haven't tried the food. The dead flies put me off
Meatballs were excellent. Service friendly and attentive without being overbearing. A bit quieter than Princess Street was on a 6N Saturday but well worth the 10 minute walk. Thanks!
The Joseph Pierce was our first stop in a tour of 18-19 pubs around Edinburgh selected by our trip planner. It made the list due to the Scrummy Scandi Food. We had Three Hop Beer and the Scandinavian Food Platter and Haggis Bon Bons. It didn't really have an old style pub feel but still a great start to the crawl.
First time here, central location and easy by bus or on foot from Leith or the City Centre.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
The atmosphere is enjoyable, not too noisy, little lights.
We ordered a few burgers, they have vegan one as well as gluten-free option. The steak was a bit too well-done for me but the burger was overall great and the chips as well.
We enjoyed delicious fish & chips and Swedish meatballs with mash in Joseph Pearce. Also a very decent Pinot Noir and lovely Moretti beer! The drinks, food and service in Joseph Pearce are always great. Thank you JPs team! 👍😊
