About This Pub
Ah, The Horseshoe Sywell – it's one of those pubs that really grows on you if you're in the Northampton area, with its charming vibe and a menu that offers some tasty, hearty options. I've heard from folks that the food can be a real highlight, like their all-day breakfast or a Sunday roast, and it's all served in a relaxed setting with a beautiful garden that's just perfect for soaking up the sunshine or letting the dog join in on the fun. The staff are genuinely lovely, always ready with a smile and a kind word, which makes you feel right at home. But, let's be straight, it's not all pints and roses – service can drag on a bit, leaving you twiddling your thumbs even when the place isn't packed, and there have been a few grumbles about meals turning up overcooked, cold, or just not up to scratch, especially when you're shelling out a bit more than at your average local. Prices might sting a tad compared to nearby spots, and the odd mix-up, like a dish vanishing from the menu after it's been promised, can put a damper on things. Still, with an overall solid rating, it's worth giving it a go if you're after a proper pub atmosphere – just keep your expectations in check and maybe go on a quieter day for the best experience. All in all, it's a decent shout for a catch-up with mates, as long as you're prepared for the occasional hiccup.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here has some solid options with above-average quality, like a nice all-day breakfast or a decent roast – it's a proper pub grub experience.
-
The staff are friendly and welcoming, always up for a chat which makes the place feel cosy and inviting.
-
It's got a lovely garden out the back with seating around the front, perfect for a sunny afternoon pint or a relaxed meal outdoors.
-
Dog-friendly vibes mean you can bring your furry mate along, and there's disabled parking and facilities, which is thoughtful for everyone.
-
They're open seven days a week, typically from midday till around 10 pm, so it's easy to pop in whenever the mood strikes.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit slow, even when it's not too busy, which might leave you waiting longer than you'd like for your food.
-
Some dishes have had issues, like overcooked steaks, cold meals, or tiny portions that don't quite hit the spot for the price.
-
There are occasional slip-ups, such as items running out after being confirmed, which can be frustrating mid-meal.
-
It's on the pricier side compared to other local pubs, so you might feel it's not the best value for what you get.
-
A few reviews mentioned specific letdowns with things like fatty gammon or sausages that didn't quite measure up.

Nice pub with some good food. Options are good and quality was also above average. Food took a while to arrive and wouldn't say it was very busy. Service was good, friendly albeit a bit slow.
Food was good, staff were polite, but let down massively by the service.
First we were told they had one ribeye available, the waitress even checked this with the chef.
20 minutes later we are told it’s no longer available.
Then we have to watch our couple friends and both kids eat their entire meal before our food was served!
Ordered two more drinks and kindly asked if they would give them free of charge due to the poor service,
Not one person working had any authority apparently so they had to phone a manager.
They told me to take the drinks whilst they tried to get hold of him,
Only to walk outside with the card machine 10 minutes later saying the manager won’t authorise any goodwill!
Unbelievable.
I told them to take the drinks away out of principle and sadly we won’t be returning.
A real shame as the food was quite good and the staff although young were all polite.
You can’t run a restaurant like that though and to not even take any accountability for poor service is shocking.
We went to eat at the Horseshoe on 19th July 2024, the food was cold, overcooked & overpriced. Paid roughly £45 for our food for 2 of us. I had a steak that I asked to be cooked medium rare & what I received you could see was overcooked before a plate even hit the table. It's amazing that 'trained' chefs cannot see this, yet a member of public can see it LONG before even cutting it open. I'd be embarrassed if that had left my kitchen.
The staff forgot about our starter & was brought out at the same time as the mains, which meant my partners main was ice cold by the time it came out. Massively undercooked chips, items advertised on the menu missing from the plate, no onion rings, burnt fried onions over the plate, took an hour to come out despite there being only one or two other small groups eating at the time with no explanation or apology for the huge delay. Says a lot about a place when only 1 or 2 other groups are eating at 8pm on a Friday evening. Complained to them on Facebook & was told that I should have complained at the time.
Dreadful.
EDIT to your reply: Your response here is almost as terrible as the food we were served with on Friday. You shared 1 message with me, essentially putting blame on me that I didn't complain at the time. You didn't offer any solution as a reputable restaurant would & should. It's not my responsibility to make sure your 'chefs' can competently cook a steak and that you lied on your menu about what food actually comes with the meals. There's a reason you have a lot of negative reviews recently & the Horseshoe was dead on what should be one of the busiest times of the week. Take note, hire better cooks & better your restaurant. As I said to you on facebook, people often don't complain, they just don't come back... which evidently as you had less than 4 meals come out in the entire time I was there, 2 of them being ours, would suggest this is the case here.
EDIT to your reply: How to fix it? Do not blame the paying customer. They are the ones who keep your business afloat. Almost every complaint here you've posted an arrogant/sarcastic response essentially disputing everything the customer has said/blamed them for not complaining at the time. Every complaint can't be wrong. Your staff can't always be right. Number one rule of hospitality? Customer is always right. You don't eat the food you've served to them, so if they tell you it's bad, you have to treat that as if its true & fix that issue.
Further Edit: I noticed you've deleted all your responses on here, I'm curious as to why you haven't reached back out on facebook?
DISAPPOINTED!
There is a large car park.
There's also a garden out the back, with seating around the front.
Dogs allowed.
disabled parking out the front too.
Toilets available.
Sadly I feel the pub wins the award for the smallest roast dinner available!
The plate was tiny and we even questioned if it was the child's portion!
The potatoes were from frozen.
The food took ages.
Our food was originally given to the wrong table.
Broken glass left on floor, despite the waitress seeing it.
Attention to detail is required, then this would be a great country pub.
Lovely pub with a lovely garden. Food was served fairly quickly. All day breakfast was not bad apart from the sausages which I didn’t like, the gammon was fatty and a bit tough. Is expensive compared to other pubs. Lovely staff and covid safe.
Update: my in-laws went for a carvery and was very disappointed, vegetables were cold and the food was not very good. They won’t be returning as it’s also expensive for a disappointing meal. They prefer the queens head in Wellingborough.
