About This Pub

Ah, The Elwes Arms, what a treat it is! From what I've gathered chatting about it, this place really shines with its top-notch grub – think generous portions of fresh, gourmet-style dishes that hit the spot every time. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and there's this lovely community feel that makes it ideal for a casual dinner or even a family celebration. It's got that perfect village pub charm, tucked away nicely, which is great if you're after a peaceful escape from the hustle. On the flip side, though, sorting out a table online means giving them a full 24 hours' notice, which might throw a spanner in the works if you're the spontaneous type. And while it's not exactly buzzing with energy like some city spots, that's what makes it so endearing – a solid choice for when you fancy reliable, heartfelt hospitality without any fuss. All in all, I'd say it's worth a visit for anyone looking for a balanced, enjoyable pub experience in Northampton.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious with generous portions that leave you feeling satisfied without breaking the bank.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It has a lovely, cosy atmosphere with a real community vibe, perfect for a relaxed evening or a family meal.
  • Great value for money, especially for families, with thoughtful touches like doggy bags and extras for kids.
  • The pub offers a modern twist on traditional village dining, with fresh, made-to-order dishes that impress.
Cons
  • Online bookings are just requests and need at least 24 hours' notice, which could be a bit of a faff if you're planning something last-minute.
  • It's tucked away on a quiet street, so it might not have the lively buzz some folks expect from a bigger pub scene, though that's part of its charm.

We went here on a Wednesday night for the first time in over 8 years as the last time we went we didn't have a good experience. I must say the food was absolutely delicious and the portions were a good size.. For starters I had pate, a meal in itself, my friends had garlic mushrooms and for mains I had West Country chicken and my friends had the locally made pies. (I think Maria's from Moulton) One of my friends had scampi which was a little overdone for her tastes but was still tasty. It was quite quiet I guess with it being a wednesday which suited us and we will definitely be back and I'm keen to try a burger next time. I would definitely recommend this beautiful period pub /restaurant full or character and very friendly staff.

The Elwes Arms is a blinding local pub that truly delivers when it comes to atmosphere and food. Tucked away on a quiet street, it offers a cosy, good vibe from the moment you step inside. The staff are friend and there is a real sense of community amongst the regulars. The food is the real highlight. The menu is packed with classic pub favourites, and all arrived promptly at the table. The head chef, Matt, was fantastic and ensured our meal was to the highest standard. He even came out to check on us, which was a nice touch. We value this level of detail and attention to customers, but it’s not something we see often. 10/10

Such a great little village pub! Such a charm and the food in particular is definitely a must. All fresh and made to order, the head chef Matt made sure all of our requests on the food was met. Definitely would recommend for a pub dinner with a gourmet twist!

We took our daughter there for her birthday lunch yesterday 25-03-25, she told us the portions were generous and we’re glad we took her advice as we have to watch our weight. The prices are so low but the food is great. The staff are friendly and the place has a lovely atmosphere. We are definitely going to return there when we come to Northampton again.
