About This Pub

Ah, Overstone Manor – it's one of those pubs that really grows on you if you're after a straightforward, no-fuss spot in Northampton. I have to say, the carvery stands out as a real winner; imagine tucking into three types of slow-cooked meats with all the trimmings like fresh veg and a massive Yorkie pud – it's just the ticket for a Sunday roast or a midweek treat, and at an inexpensive price, it's easy on the wallet too. The place is brilliantly set up for families, with a beer garden and outdoor play area right near some cracking local parks, making it a top choice for a day out with the kids or even bringing the dog along. Plus, amenities like WiFi and a car park add to the convenience, so you can settle in without a worry. On the flip side, though, service has been a mixed bag from what I've heard – some folks rave about the friendly staff, but others mention long waits for food or the odd unprofessional moment that can sour the experience. There was even a tale of a disruptive incident that put a dampener on things, which is never ideal when you're out for a relaxing pint. Overall, it's got that warm, community feel that's perfect for casual get-togethers, but I'd suggest going in with realistic expectations and maybe avoiding peak times if you're in a rush. If you're a fan of traditional pubs with a good carvery, it's worth a visit, but keep an eye out for those little niggles to make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The carvery is absolutely spot on – fresh meats, crispy roasties, and seasonal veg make for a proper hearty meal that's great value for money.
  • It's super family-friendly with a beer garden, outdoor play area, and it's dog-friendly too, perfect for a relaxed day out near Sywell Country Park.
  • The atmosphere is welcoming, especially for a casual breakfast or a pint, and they've got handy facilities like WiFi and a car park.
  • Being inexpensive means you can pop in without breaking the bank, and the overall vibe is just right for unwinding with mates or family.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit inconsistent; some visits might leave you waiting ages for your food, which is a shame when you're looking forward to tucking in.
  • There have been a few reports of unprofessional staff or disruptive goings-on, like a rowdy atmosphere that might put a damper on your evening.
  • While the food's generally good, it's not always perfect, and you might end up with issues like drinks not being quite right or things running out.
  • Waiting times for meals can be frustrating, especially if you're with little ones who are getting restless.

Staying nearby but the hotel restaurant was expensive and uninspiring. Saw this place was close so gave it a try, but then wished I hadn't. Looks great when you arrive, large building with good grounds, but what lurks inside are where the problems begin. First issue was a drunk guy creating a scene in the bar, which he continued to do throughout my visit, not sure why they didn't just refuse to serve him and throw him out. Anyway, ordered my dinner and drink from the table using the Greene King app, which they promote in the venue. The drink arrived relatively quickly, but was not quite what I ordered as it had ice and I had requested specifically no ice. It was also supposed to be a large drink (pint) but was about 3/4 full. Anyway, I couldn't be bothered to argue so drank it anyway. Food arrived shortly after, but was probably the smallest portion I have seen in a long time. Having finished the main course I was still hungry, so ordered a dessert, again using the app. Half an hour later I had to go to the bar to ask where the dessert was. About ten minutes after this it finally arrived. During the whole time I was waiting there were no waiting staff about clearing the 3 tables of used plates, at no point did anyone ask if everything was OK. Generally a poorly run place with small portions and a questionable atmosphere. Certainly wouldn't rush back, or recommend to anyone. Interestingly as I was about to leave another customer asked for a manager to complain about the extremely poor service in the restaurant. So it wasn't just me having issues.

5 Stars! Popped into The Overstone for breakfast this morning and WOW — hands down the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time! Everything was hot, fresh, and full of flavour — proper hearty start to the day! Perfect Saturday morning date — great food, lovely atmosphere, and fantastic service. Huge compliments to the new management team — you can really see the difference already. Friendly service, clean environment, and top-quality food. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🍳☕️🥓❤️

I had no choice but to give a lower score than I would liked just for the sheer lack of service. The senior member of the team was very unprofessional no service with a smile, she was quite abrupt upon returning a drink of soda that had no flavour(syrup ran out) calling a younger member of staff aggressively to try the Fanta and his response was it's definitely fizzy but has not got any flavour. The table staff were great friendly and clearing plates and checking if our food was okay. The carvery starting off we had to ring a bell for service we was finally greeted by the server then he wondered off returning 5-10 minutes later to serve a small queue. The Carvery spread was hit and miss the meat was delicious but the vegetables etc had obviously been sitting for far too long, the roast potatoes were very dry and tasted of a dirty oven the other veg was either too over or too raw. This was meant to be 40th birthday celebration with out of town family and friends. Some other dishes were delicious others again were hit and miss. The Overstone Manor was a great place to eat many years ago with a few tweaks here and there, staff changes etc it could be once more.

Nice little pub. Park is great for kids. Food is nice but we waited an hour for the food to come out. Great scenery, lovely place. Only bad side is the food waiting time.
