About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Hermit Inn – it's one of those timeless spots that's been welcoming folk for over 300 years, tucked away on the edge of the moors. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are just brilliant; they're friendly, professional, and know their stuff when it comes to recommending a pint or a dish. The food really stands out – fresh, tasty options like hearty pizzas and soups that leave you satisfied, paired with a solid range of beers and wines. It's got that perfect pub feel, especially if you're coming in from a brisk walk, with lovely views and outdoor seating to soak in the scenery. On the flip side, it does get a bit hectic inside sometimes, with the noise levels picking up in the cosy space, and parking can be a right faff when it's packed. All in all, it's a proper gem for a relaxed get-together, but maybe best visited on a quieter day if you prefer a more laid-back chat. I'd say it's well worth a visit for anyone looking for a bit of Yorkshire charm with good grub and drinks.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The warm and friendly atmosphere makes you feel right at home, with staff who are knowledgeable and always ready for a chat about the beers or food.
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious home-cooked options like pizzas, soups, and burgers that hit the mark every time.
  • A fantastic selection of beers, wines, and real ales, perfect for unwinding after a walk on the moors.
  • Its stunning location on the edge of Ilkley Moor, with great outdoor seating and walks that lead straight to the pub, makes it a brilliant spot for a day out.
  • It's clearly a popular favourite, buzzing with energy and offering that classic pub vibe that's hard to beat.
Cons
  • It can get quite lively and noisy inside, especially with the low ceilings and wooden furnishings, which might not suit those after a quiet pint.
  • Parking seems to be a bit of a challenge, as the car park often fills up quickly, making it tricky on busy days.
  • Without clear operating hours listed, it might be hard to plan a visit, leaving you guessing if it's open when you fancy popping in.

Lovely place. We both had pizzas. Nice toppings, well cooked. Good selection of beers and wines. Quick, pleasant service. There is nothing to criticise. Hands up, I go in quite regularly, but don't eat there often.

The car park was nearly full when we arrived, which demonstrated how popular the pub is. It's quite loud inside, which is reflected in the low ceiling & the wooden furnishings. The staff were excellent at seating us at our table, taking the drinks order & giving us time to view the menu. The food was excellent. You are given 2 hour time slots, which is quite common with a lot of pubs these days. There are TV screens in the pub, which, on the occasion we were there, were used for large sporting events.

As first-time visitors to The Hermit Inn, we were impressed by the ambience, standard of service and the quality of the food. It's obviously a very popular spot, based on the number of customers when we visited on a Saturday lunchtime. The pub is on the route of a number of popular walks, and arriving by foot to such a welcoming pub is pleasant indeed. If you're planning to eat, booking a table is recommended; the booking slots are a generous two hours. The staff dealt with the steady flow of customers professionally, and with a friendly and welcoming demeanour. The menu has a good selection of dishes. Our food arrived quickly, a credit to the staff in what looked like a tiny kitchen. The food was tasty, and well-received by all our group. Would definitely visit again.

We were driving past and noticed it was a Free House so decided to stop for a quick bite to eat. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We chose a light lunch - husband had a mushroom and tarragon soup and I had potato and leek soup. Both delicious and served with sourdough bread. The menu and the food that was being served looked very good. If we had not already booked a table elsewhere that evening we would have gone back for dinner. Also a good selection of ales. Upper terrace has stunning views.

Another lovely evening at The Hermit. We were really lucky to be served by Molly again. She was so efficient and helpful. The food was all delicious. Korean chicken burger (I ordered without the bun) was spicy and fresh, the mushrooms with truffle special was a really good portion and really tasty, the smash burger and the meaty hermit pizza were both great too. The pub was packed. Really buzzy. Lovely to see a country pub, that was my local growing up, making such a success of things!
