About This Pub

Ah, The White Cross Hotel – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its warm, welcoming surroundings and a menu full of proper pub grub that's a step up from the usual. I've heard from loads of folks that the homemade nachos and other dishes are spot-on, especially with all the options for different tastes, making it ideal for a casual catch-up or a family Sunday roast. The staff often get it right with their efficient service and that community feel, and let's not forget the beer garden, which is brilliant on a summer evening. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing – there have been tales of getting the wrong order, like a beef burger when you asked for chicken, and some chips that were a bit tough to handle, not to mention waits that drag on. Service can be hit or miss, with a few reports of staff seeming a bit short or unhelpful, which is a shame in an otherwise cosy spot. All in all, if you're heading to Leeds for a pint and a bite, it's worth a go, but maybe keep expectations realistic and have a backup plan for any hiccups. It's got that classic Ember Inns charm, and with an overall solid rating, most visits seem to end on a high note.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is a real winner – think tasty pub classics like homemade nachos that go way beyond the ordinary, with options for everyone including vegetarians, vegans, and kids.
  • Service is generally spot-on, with friendly bar staff and efficient table service that makes you feel right at home.
  • It's a welcoming spot with a great atmosphere, perfect for catching up with mates, enjoying a beer in the garden on sunny days, or even bringing the family and the dog along.
  • Handy location near Leeds and attractions like Otley Chevin Forest Park, plus it's moderately priced and open every day for a relaxed meal or drink.
Cons
  • There can be mix-ups with orders, like getting the wrong burger, which might leave you a bit frustrated after waiting around.
  • Some folks have found the staff unhelpful or on edge at times, which takes away from the cosy vibe.
  • Food quality isn't always consistent – think hard chips that aren't easy to tuck into, and waits that feel a tad long.
  • Parking might be a bit of a hassle, so it's worth planning ahead if you're driving over.

if i could give this place a 0 out of 5 i would. i ordered a chicken burger and got a beef burger? what. and the chips where very hard and tender to eat. the staff seem to be very rude and unhelpful and on edge. customer service is shocking. and i waited 30 mins for basically the wrong food and hard chips. i am very disappointed. will not be returning ever again. i will make everyone i know aware of this place and whats its like as i’ve seen of previous reviews that people have felt ill from food eaten. the table was sticky na dirty and just unhygienic in general.

It's a great little place, parking a bit restricted but once inside it's a very friendly pub staff are friendly and there is a good choice of beers/lagar, as for the food a wide variety from vegetarian, vegan and of course omiverous to , there also a children's section, it's also dog friendly , and a beer garden/patio + 1 TV if you're into sports. All in all a nice place Big improvements with the refurbishment, all new decor, tables , seating ect , come and have a look.

Came here recently with an old friend for some lunch. We were not disappointed! She had a blue light card and was able to get 10% off our bill. The place was not busy at all and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. We shared the calamari and nachos for starters which was all lovely. I had the bacon and mushroom pasta for lunch which was delicious and I would definitely recommend, my friend had the steak sandwich which she also enjoyed but was abit dry. Delicious cocktails and some of the cheapest I’ve seen in the area. I will definitely be returning to try more of the menu !
