About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Harrington Arms, it really brings a smile – it's one of those classic English pubs that nails the basics with a welcoming atmosphere and staff who go out of their way to make you feel at ease. The food stands out as a winner; their homemade dishes and Sunday roasts get glowing feedback, blending traditional pub grub with a bit of a gastro twist that keeps things interesting. Plus, with a solid range of ales and ciders on tap, it's easy to settle in for a proper pint or two. On the other hand, the menu isn't the most extensive, so if you're in the mood for variety, you might find it a touch limiting, and some have noted that portions don't always hit the mark – either too generous or surprisingly modest. Prices can sting a bit more than at the local competition, and there are occasional gripes about things like food temperature, but overall, it's a dependable spot for a good time with family or even the dog in tow. I'd say it's worth a visit if you're after that authentic pub experience, just keep those little niggles in mind for a balanced outing.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of ales, including their renowned Bass and other rotating guest brews that are always spot on.
  • The food is a real highlight, with freshly cooked homemade dishes and those Sunday roasts that folks absolutely rave about.
  • It's wonderfully family and dog-friendly, so you can pop in with the little ones or your furry friend without a worry.
  • The pub has a cosy, traditional village atmosphere that's just perfect for a relaxed evening or a hearty lunch.
Cons
  • The menu doesn't offer a massive variety, so if you're after something specific, you might end up a bit disappointed.
  • Portions can be inconsistent – some are huge, leading to leftovers, while others feel a tad small for the price.
  • Prices are on the steeper side compared to other local spots, which might make you think twice before heading back often.
  • A few comments mention food not always being served at the ideal temperature, like tepid soup, which is a bit of a shame.

Very friendly and welcoming. Dogs allowed in the dining area which was great. Not a massive choice on the menu and sadly nothing I really like but that's not their fault. Servings are huge though hence the 4 stars as I don't like having to leave food. Smaller dishes were on the menu but only as part of a 3 course meal.

The pub serves good food, although the prices are higher than, for example, at the Bull's Head in Repton, which is also a fantastic pub. Overall, it’s great—just a little pricey for the size you are getting. I also have the impression that the portions are smaller than they used to be.

The service was good. We had the two course Sunday lunch of soup, butter nut squash ( tepid in temperature) but nice if a little sweet for me. Main courses were 2 x pork and one chicken which were presented well the only criticism was that the meat portions were small (half a chicken breast and the pork just 2 slices) the veg was served on a separate platter which was nice and a good portion. Ambiance and atmosphere were also very nice in the dining room.

We visited for a birthday family meal and sat in the bar area. Perfect pub atmosphere, good music and cosy. The food was delicious. Jack and Brooke were super friendly and looked after us well. Highly recommended.

Wow. What a lovely visit we had here today. I can only assume it's under new management because I had never expected it to be this good. Inside looks much nicer, very friendly and welcoming staff who couldn't do enough for us. And the menu was amazing. All the usual pub classics with some really interesting and beautifully cooked alternatives. Chips to die for. Will definitely be back much more often now I've rediscovered it. Very doggy friendly. Lovely outdoor seating area.
