About This Pub

Ah, The Greyhound – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a second home, you know? Tucked away in a quaint village near Oxford, it's got this timeless appeal with its mellow stone walls and roaring log fires that make you want to settle in for the evening. The food is where it really shines; they've got fresh, seasonal menus packed with delicious British classics and a few creative surprises, like that slow-roasted pork belly that's become a firm favourite among mates who've been. Pair it with their cracking selection of cask ales, and you're onto a winner. The team behind the bar are absolute stars too, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to that cosy, community spirit. They've even got events like charity walks and summer festivals that bring everyone together, making it more than just a place for a quick drink. On the flip side, it can be a bit pricier than your average local, so it's worth keeping an eye on the bill if you're watching the pennies, and occasionally things like a soup not being piping hot might crop up, but honestly, it's rare and doesn't spoil the overall fun. All in all, if you're after a spot for a relaxed meal or a catch-up with friends, I'd say give The Greyhound a go – it's got that perfect balance of tradition and quality that keeps you coming back.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious, with fresh, seasonal ingredients and hearty pub classics that really hit the spot – think perfectly cooked roasts and innovative twists on traditional dishes.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in, with great service that adds to the warm atmosphere.
  • It's got that classic country pub charm in spades, with cosy corners, log fires for those chilly evenings, and a beautiful garden that's lovely in any season.
  • A fantastic selection of cask ales and drinks means you can always find a proper pint or something special to pair with your meal.
  • They host fun events like charity dog walks and festivals, which add a real community feel and give you more reasons to pop by.
Cons
  • Prices can feel a tad steep at first glance, though the quality of the food and experience generally makes it worth the spend.
  • There might be the odd minor hiccup, like a dish not being quite hot enough, but it's not a deal-breaker based on what I've heard.

We visited this pub on a Sunday evening and I initially thought it was rather pricey. However, on ordering the Porchetta (slow roasted pork belly) myself and the house burger my partner, we were very happy. They both tasted delicious, were perfectly cooked and were worth the price we paid. Additionally, the service was good, the pub is very well maintained and nicely decorated. It also has a large selection of drinks including the unusual but tasty still rhubarb cider. It has what appears to be a very nice garden also, but we sat inside as it wasn't very warm. The pub is near a busy road but when dining indoors we couldn't hear any road noise. We'll definitely be visiting it again.

We can always depend on this restaurant for a good meal and today was no exception. Emma looked after us and was amazing. Thank you. My only small criticism was that my mushroom soup could have been hotter, though a really good flavour. Our roast dinners were very tasty, and especially the gravy.

Called in for lunch and although they were busy we got a table for 2. The staff were friendly and helpful there was a good menu and a great selection of drinks, Lowenbräu on tap what a treat my favourite lager. We had goats cheese and peppers and sun-dried tomato tart, cod goujons sandwich in proper fresh bread and fries. All was cooked perfectly and very tasty. Thank you keep up the good work.

We've passed here quite a few times before and decided to stop this time for lunch. Nice to see them open on a Monday and were a few others tables in. Good selection of drinks including 3 or 4 cask ales which is always good to see. Starters were good, the French onion soup was particularly good, chicken liver pate was equally delicious. Children's menu was fine, nice little burger and loads of garlic bread on a starter. Mains, the chilli beef salad was nicely spicy and well dressed. The aubergine and lentil moussaka was tasty but for a main course and was way too small for the price. We did feed this back at the time, rather than just say so in a review, and it was handled very well. Couple of icecreams for dessert and it was a job well done! Service was great, welcoming, responsive and friendly. A nice building and well maintained, we'd be happy to return or recommend to others. Family of 3, we spent just under £80 including a couple of small drinks and left very happy. Good job!!
