About This Pub
Ah, the Dog House in Abingdon – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper hideaway from the hustle, with its cosy vibe and welcoming staff who make you feel right at home from the get-go. I've heard from folks who've popped in that the food is a real winner, with generous portions of pub favourites and seasonal specials that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. It's brilliant for a relaxed lunch or a Sunday roast, and being dog-friendly adds that extra touch for anyone out for a country walk. On the flip side, though, some of the rooms can come across as a bit outdated and dimly lit, which might not be everyone's cup of tea if you're staying over. There've been a few tales of minor issues with bookings or finding the right room, and the bathrooms do feel like they need a bit of TLC to match the rest of the charm. All in all, it's a solid spot for good times and tasty meals, but keeping those little improvements in mind will make it even better for future visits.
Pros and Cons

-
It's a lovely countryside spot that's dog-friendly, making it ideal for a stroll and then settling in for a pint or a bite.
-
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, especially in the beer garden during those lazy afternoons, with seasonal menus that really hit the spot.
Cons
-
Some of the rooms can feel a bit dated and dark, which might not suit everyone looking for a modern stay.
-
There have been occasional hiccups with bookings or room allocations, so it's worth double-checking when you arrive.
-
A few areas, like the bathrooms, seem a tad tired and could do with a refresh to keep up with the rest of the place.

Excellent stay my first visit to the hotel but my god I will be back staff amazing food top quality. Room clean and comfortable
Stayed for a night on business. Arrived late, struggled to find my booking. Allocated a room next to the public toilets, lights didn't work so was moved to a different room. Rooms were very dark, probably a good thing and we're tired and dated. Bathrooms were tired and rated. Everywhere felt like it needed a deep clean. Bed was comfortable enough and bedding was clean.
Bathroom again needed a deep clean, mould everywhere. I get that it's an old building which will present it's own challenges but it is possible to clean and vacuum old buildings.
Restaurant was good, staff were attentive. Breakfast was freshly cooked - not a buffet.
Came for lunch on a half-term Wednesday, and it was pleasantly quiet.
The food was fantastic, big portions and just splendid - all for a more than fair price.
We were served by Helen and Sammi, they both were lovely and accommodating, definitely will be returning!

Thanks to James & Andrew for a really lovely and cozy stay. I am very late in doing this review (I stayed back in October for work related reasons) and they made my stay very warm and welcoming! The food was lovely and the room spacious and cozy. I would recommend a stay here again at this charming hotel.
We had lunch here a couple of weeks ago, and it was an amazing experience! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff went above and beyond. Lina, Steve, and Simon were fantastic—so kind, quick, and always smiling.
We can’t wait to come back very soon! Five stars aren’t enough!
