About This Pub

Ah, The Grey Horse – it's one of those classic pubs in Shiremoor that you stumble upon and think, 'This could be a new favourite.' From what I've gathered chatting about it, the place has this warm, community feel most of the time, with staff who are usually up for a laugh and pints that go down a treat. It's brilliant for a casual meet-up; pop in with your dog, challenge mates to a game of pool, or just lose yourself in the jukebox tunes. The fact it's open seven days a week from around midday makes it dead convenient for a quick stop after work or a lazy Sunday. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses – I've heard a few tales of staff being a bit off their game, leaving some feeling less than welcome, and it's a pity there's no cask ales for the real ale enthusiasts out there. Oh, and if you're hoping for a bite to eat, you might be out of luck, as it doesn't seem to serve food. Still, with most reviews singing its praises, I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in Newcastle – just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are generally friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a great selection of pints that hit the spot, perfect for a relaxing evening.
  • It's super dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry friend along for the fun.
  • There's a pool table and jukebox to keep things lively – always a bonus for a bit of entertainment with your drink.
  • They accept card payments, which is handy these days when you're out and about.
Cons
  • Some folks have had run-ins with rude staff, which can really put a damper on the evening.
  • The atmosphere isn't always spot on; a few have said it felt unwelcoming, which is a bit of a shame for a local spot.
  • No cask ales on offer, so if that's your thing, you might leave feeling a tad disappointed.
  • It doesn't seem to do food, which means you might need to head elsewhere if you're after a proper meal with your pint.

Awful place, rude staff, felt very unwelcomed not a nice atmosphere at all. It’s a shame as this is my local.

Old pub in Shiremoor. Only ever popped in for a swift one on the way home from Town. I don't think that they do food, but it is dog-friendly. It seems clean and friendly, but sells no cask ales, so, to me it doesn't hit the spot, cask ale being what I drink.
