About This Pub
Ah, The Gretna Green – it's one of those reliable spots that you can count on for a good time without breaking the bank. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food's a real winner, especially with those affordable deals like tucking into selected dishes for just a tenner; it's perfect if you're feeding the family or catching up with mates over a burger and a pint. The staff seem to be the heart of the place, always chipping in with a smile and making sure everyone's sorted, which really adds to that cosy, community feel. Plus, with the indoor play area and beer garden, it's brilliant for families – I can imagine the kids having a blast while you unwind. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect; a few folks have pointed out that the fresh produce, like salads, can sometimes be past its best, which is a shame when you're hoping for that fresh crunch. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're in the Newton Aycliffe area and fancy a straightforward, no-fuss pub experience – just keep expectations realistic for the food variety, and you'll likely have a cracking visit.

Cons
-
Occasionally, the fresh items like salads don't quite hit the mark, as some have mentioned browning lettuce, which can put a dampener on the meal.

It might feel a bit standard for those after something more unique, as it's your typical pub fare without many surprises.
-
Opening hours are straightforward, but if you're after late-night options, it closes fairly early, around 10 or 10:30 pm most days.

Spot on. Ut is what it is. Normal pub food but good value for money we were very happy fed 3 of is with a soft drink for my Mrs for under 20 pound. And the burgers were decent . Can't ask for more really. Wiukd defiantly go again.. staff were very pleasant too and kind to my daughter who is 2. Place is clean and tidy no problems for us here. Also have booths with kids tv on if needed.
Just had my husbands 60th birthday meal with all the family here, great food, friendly staff, would recommend.
Took the kids to the play area (Wacky), my daughter had a great time.
The only issue we had was with some of the food, all three adults has food with salad in it and as you can see from the photo we were lucky enough to get old browning lettuce. From my experience this is at least 24-48 hours old and shouldn't have been served.
Service was alright, the woman running the play area was lovely, it was very busy but she managed to sort us out a table. The bar staff had an issue putting ice in drinks when we had asked for no ice (we ordered through the app) so we scooped them out.
Overall for atmosphere my daughter loved it, so can't complain about it.
We visited as we stayed in Premier Inn next door. The food was actually surprisingly nice! We had mixed grills and veggie lasagne. As a side, we had onion rings and halloumi, which were absolutely delicious 😋
The atmosphere was nice and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
They could do with a little bit of decorating update, otherwise nothing to fault!
It's also reasonably priced, which makes a change as we come from Sussex 😄
The Gretna is a very nice place to visit for food . We went on Friday which is bogof on burgers so we ordered 4 burgers and only paid for 2 . The food was nice The staff are all nice, each day they have different offers all which are good so take advantage of this as we did , drinks are reasonably priced also so overall a very good place . Thank you
