About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Clarendon Arms, it just brings a smile to my face – it's one of those places in Cambridge that feels like a proper hidden gem, where you can pop in for a casual meal or a catch-up with friends. They've really nailed the food side of things, serving up homemade dishes that blend comforting pub favourites like fish and chips with delightful Italian options such as authentic pastas and pizzas made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. It's all about that balance, making every bite feel special without being too fancy. The atmosphere is just lovely too; it's cosy and unpretentious, with a nod to the classic pub scene but with a fresh twist that keeps it exciting. And let's not forget the drinks – they've got a great range of real ales and wines that pair perfectly with the menu, plus some cracking deals that make it even more appealing for a night out. On the flip side, though, if you're someone who prefers things straightforward and traditional, the Italian influences might throw you off a bit, as it's not your standard boozer. Also, the opening times can be a touch inconsistent, so it's always a good idea to check ahead. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for good food, friendly chats, and that warm pub feel – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with a brilliant mix of hearty pub classics and delicious Italian treats like fresh pastas and wood-fired pizzas – it's a real treat for the taste buds.
  • The service is warm and welcoming, with staff who go the extra mile to make you feel right at home, just like chatting with old friends over a pint.
  • It's got a cosy and inviting atmosphere that's perfect for unwinding with mates or family, blending that classic pub charm with a fresh, vibrant feel.
  • They've got a cracking selection of real ales, craft beers, and even deals like 2-for-1 cocktails, making it easy to enjoy a good drink without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • The menu's fusion of pub grub and Italian flavours might not suit everyone – if you're after a straightforward traditional pint and pie spot, it could feel a bit different.
  • The operating hours seem to vary a tad, especially on Sundays, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any disappointment if you're planning a visit.

Italian Green King Writing reviews of the Cambridge pubs therefore entered this pub. Despite most of the photos of other reviewers being just regular pub food, it has Italian menu. The pizza crust was thin. Therefore the crust was not chewy. Everyone can eat it easily, that including the ones with weaker teeth. The pizza had very generous toppings, which was quite rare these days. The pasta too, had a very generous amount of seafood. The tiramisu was not as creamy as Signorelli's deli but the bitter sweet taste was nice. Not everyone prefers blind sweets. The environment was quiet and clean. A nice place to chill. Should give the Italian menu a go. I would come back to try other pizza and pasta!

I came today with my husband and some friends. We had two rounds of drinks (two beers, one campari spritz and one aperol spritz), and the bartender, Alessio, gave us a marinara. After we ordered two more drinks we had one more. The marinara pizza was amazing and both the spritz and the aperol tasted exactly like they should. We really enjoyed our time here and we will surely come back again, especially if we can find Alessio again!
