About This Pub
Ah, The Goldengrove, it's one of those Wetherspoons spots that you either love for its straightforward vibe or find a tad frustrating on a busy night. From what I've gathered chatting about it, it's spot-on for anyone after a cheap night out; the prices are wallet-friendly, and that big outdoor area is just the ticket for soaking up the atmosphere with friends, especially if the weather's playing ball. I hear some staff really pull through with helpful service, like going out of their way to fix a drink just right, which adds a nice personal touch. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing – tales of grumpy servers and orders getting muddled up are common, and waiting ages for food that's not quite up to scratch can sour the experience. It does get packed and noisy, which is fun if you're in the mood for a lively crowd, but if you're after a quiet pint, it might not hit the mark. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're local or fancy ticking it off your Spoons list, but I'd say pop in with realistic expectations and maybe aim for off-peak times to dodge the queues.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's a brilliant budget-friendly option, perfect for grabbing an affordable pint or meal without breaking the bank.
-
The large outside area is a real winner, especially on a sunny day, making it feel more spacious and welcoming for a chat with mates.
-
Some of the staff are absolute gems, like that helpful chap who sorted out drinks with a smile – it's those little touches that brighten up a visit.
-
It's in a buzzing part of Stratford, so it's handy if you're out and about, and they keep the doors open late for those evening catch-ups.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit of a letdown at times, with stories of staff giving attitudes or messing up orders, which puts a dampener on things.
-
Wait times for food are often frustratingly long, and when it arrives, it might not be piping hot – like that cold bacon that left a bad taste.
-
It gets incredibly loud and crowded with all sorts of folks, and issues like queue jumping going unchecked can make it feel a bit chaotic.
-
Tables aren't always spotless, which might make you think twice about settling in for a proper sit-down.

It's very much a drinker pub,but as a big outside area.Lots of different personalities here that make it very loud.Came to tick it off my Wetherspoons list ,but probably would only recommend if you're in the area and like me love all things spoons.
Horrible service. The server was giving us attitudes when THEY are the ones messed up our order. Severely understaffed. Everything took so long. We waited for more than an hour for our food to be delivered. The food is horrible as well, bacon was ice cold. I don’t know if they cooked it. It ruined my day.
I’ve been there with my girlfriend and we won’t go back anymore. Since we were both on the bar waiting to order 3 people just came in front of us to order without having a table even if we already told them to wait they’re turn. The bar lady saw it and she didn’t say anything. After that i ordered fish and cips and my girlfriend ordered a pizza. We just sit outside on the terrace at table 45. A man next to us ordered as well a fish and cips . He get it and then the waiter come with another plate of fish and cips went straight to that man saying no no no , he took away the plate , after the men already put on the plate salt, pepper , the lemon on the fish and mayo on the plate and giving to me. I was shoked . Then i finished eating and my girlfriend pizza still didn’t came. After mu girlfriend just went to see what happened and the lady who was in charge just start shouting at her saying that they run out of tomatoes sauce. My girlfriend told them that she would like panini. They didn’t told her nothing. She waited as well 45 min and after that we went both at the bar to see whats wrong. The bar lady smiling she told us that there’s no bread for panini. I mean after more than 1 hour pf waiting for food you didn’t tell us nothing not even advising having all this problems. The lady from the bar she was quiet rude shouting that she is under staff. I mean me and my girlfriend we both worked hospitality for more than 10 years we both know how it is, but at least you as a duty manager advise your staff that you run out of things or at least block the items on the till. What can i say after all. Worse service and worse management. I don’t recommend it.
A great evening. Awais was so helpful. I ordered Hendricks and was told that there was no cucumber. He told me to wait and prepared some for our drinks effortlessly. Excellent.
