About This Pub

Ah, The Gloucester – it's one of those local pubs that you might pop into for a relaxed evening and end up having a right good time, especially if you're after a friendly chat and maybe a round of darts. From what I've gathered, the atmosphere is generally buzzing and welcoming, with decent prices that won't break the bank, and little extras like outdoor heaters making it a comfortable spot year-round. The staff can be absolute gems at times, dishing out that warm hospitality that makes you feel like part of the crowd. But, let's be straight, it's not all pints and cheers; there are moments when service falls flat, like when things get a bit sloppy or staff don't seem as engaged, which could sour an otherwise fun night. Plus, if you're heading out with a group, you might run into strict ID checks that feel a tad unfair. Overall, I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area for a laid-back drink, just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a decent time – after all, every pub has its quirks, doesn't it?

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is spot on – it's a welcoming spot for a good laugh with friends, especially if you're up for a game of darts or just soaking in the vibe.
  • Staff can be really friendly, like the landlady who makes you feel right at home, and the prices are decent for a night out in Wellingborough.
  • It's got some nice touches, such as heaters outside, which make it comfy even on chillier evenings, and it's generally a solid choice for a casual pint.
Cons
  • Service can be hit or miss, with some reports of staff not being on top form, like stumbling or not seeming all that welcoming during busy times.
  • There have been a few hiccups with entry policies, such as turning folks away over ID issues, which might put a dampener on a planned get-together.
  • It doesn't always hit the mark on friendliness from the team, with a couple of mentions of staff looking like they'd rather be elsewhere.

Really quite shocked at the situation that happened last Friday, went in to celebrate my friends birthday and one of the members of our group was turned away due to "insufficient ID" (it was a citizenship card and he is unable to get a driving license as he is blind). Member went went home to grab his passport and was let in by the security and was then dragged out by the manager. The manager advised the reason was that the member was ignoring him, which was an absolute lie. When speaking to the manager, he seemed to have absolutely no faith in his security staff and a very bad attitude. Enough faith to let a bunch of straight girls in but anyone who was a gay man with makeup. I'm very confused as to why he even pays the security if he has no faith in him. He also claimed he was hit, but multiple witnesses have stated he wasn't, and he even let the person who "hit" him finish her drink inside after the situation. Was also shocked that some customers who were drinking were also able to serve others behind the bar. Bit odd if you asl me. Very unprofessional, very shocking, and the fact other security guards at other pubs were apologising for their behaviour speaks volumes for the pub in question. Do not recommend to anyone!

Never had food, but a good atmosphere, prices are decent by Wellingborough standards. Service is good, but could do with some staff who look a bit friendlier and not like they want to be at home every shift. In town, so a good place to go if you're going about town for a night out. Usually has security during the evening on weekends, so if you look under 25, make sure you bring ID.

I would give one star because the bartender wasn't with it; kept stumbling and put his hand in my drink. Other than that, it was a good vibe with pretty good music for a Friday night. The heaters outside were also a nice touch👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾4 stars for everything but 3 stars because of poor service. Check your staff!
