About This Pub
Ah, The Gilpins Bell – it's one of those classic London pubs that you stumble upon and think, 'This could be a regular haunt.' From the reviews I've seen, it's got that warm, community feel with staff who are dead chuffed to help and make your visit enjoyable. The prices are spot on for a night out, especially their fish and chips, which folks rave about as the best value in town – you won't break the bank here. It's open seven days a week from early morning, making it handy for a casual catch-up over a brew. On the other hand, it's not all roses; some have had a right nightmare with the food, like waiting an eternity for a burger that turns up dry and underwhelming, or match day grub that's more miss than hit. The atmosphere can get a bit chaotic when it's busy, and the decor's showing its age in places, which might put you off if you're after something polished. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back pint if you're nearby, but I'd say go in with realistic expectations and maybe stick to the drinks if you're feeling cautious – that way, you can enjoy the good bits without the surprises.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and make you feel right at home, always up for a friendly chat.
-
It's got great value for money, like their fish and chips for just £8 – proper bargain and tasty too.
-
A cracking spot to relax with a pint and lose yourself for a few hours in a typical pub atmosphere.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit hit or miss, with some reports of long waits for food that really drags things down.
-
Food quality isn't always spot on; a few folks have mentioned dry burgers and tasteless meals that leave you disappointed.
-
The place could do with a fresh coat of paint in spots – it feels a tad worn out, especially on busy days.

Typical pub. Lovely staff and great place to just get lost for a few hours
Only use this pub on Tottenham hotspurs match days, very busy. Not normally a problem at the bar , considering it a match day . The pub could do with a coat of paint in areas, will still drink there , prices are reasonable.
Absolutely horrific service. Food took an hour to come. I ordered a chicken burger and got given a bread bun and a dry chicken breast. I wish took a picture before I added mayo for you all to see. I went to the front and all I asked for was some cheese in my burger. I was shocked of the quality of food as this is something I could have made in my sleep at home. I wasn’t aware these guys classified a burger as just a bun and meat, no sauce or salad. I spoke with the manager who needs a lesson or two in basic customer service skills. One of the first things I said was I don’t want to argue and just wanted abit of cheese. She went on telling me it was my fault for not reading the menu correctly, even so, do your bit as a manager and keep your paying customers happy. Because for her my group of 9 will never be coming here again. She needs to be sacked as she can’t handle a customer facing job clearly. Couldn’t even eat my food as she put me off completely so so angry and disappointed as it’s a lovely looking pub just needs a better manager.
Has to be the best value fish & chips in London. Only £8 and great quality. You won't get it cheaper or better.
ChEAP NASTY PROCESDED Tepid match day burger is not what I expected, cheap and tasteless at best, soggy buns no onion rings with burger as stated on menu, the onion rings arrived after we finished eating our meals.(or what we could eat)
Was given a portion of cheesy chips that we didn't order,
Kids burger meal ordered with cheese (no cheese), chips were soggy not well cooked, and Tepid at best.
It is my opinion that the kitchen staff needs retraining, especially with cooking times.
To our dissatisfaction, the management failed to rectify their errors and made no offer or attempt to either refund or replace the meal.or offer us a free round of drinks.
I am very disappointed with the quality of food
I do not recommend eating here unless you have no sense of taste or your tongue cut out.
Didn't even want to give a one-star rating as they don't even deserve that
Very poor indeed wish we'd gone to the Beehive in Bruce Grove instead, never eating here again
They have a car park for patrons, which is always locked, so customers are forced on the pay and display bays outsude the pub, as a disabled person I find this very selfish and unsatisfactory bordering discrimination.
Instead, they see it fit to open the car park on match days to which they charge £20 per vehicle on match days only .
Clearly no customer service skills to be had, no wonder pub is always pretty much empty
