About This Pub

Ah, The Gas Lamp – what a find it is in the bustling streets of Manchester! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place is a real charmer, tucked away like a secret basement spot that's perfect for sinking into a good chat over an impressive array of beers and spirits. I love how they've nailed the drinks menu; it's fresh, varied, and feels like they've put real thought into it, especially with those craft options that keep things exciting. The staff are an absolute highlight too – always up for a laugh and quick to lend a hand, which makes the whole experience feel relaxed and inviting. Plus, that quirky decor with its wall art and historical nods adds a nice touch of personality, making it stand out from the usual chain pubs. On the flip side, though, some prices do sting a bit, so it's worth keeping an eye on your tab if you're out for a sesh. The interior's a tad dated in spots, and while it's cosy, it might get a bit squished when the crowds roll in, with service that's competent but not quite memorable. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone after a genuine, unpretentious night out – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the good bits far outweigh the niggles, and it's got that authentic pub feel that'll leave you with a smile.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The drinks selection is absolutely spot on – they've got a fantastic range of craft beers, ales, and spirits that really hit the spot, especially if you're after something fresh and unique.
  • The staff are so friendly and helpful; it's like chatting with mates behind the bar, making you feel right at home from the get-go.
  • It's got that quirky, atmospheric vibe with loads of interesting wall art and a bit of history on display – feels like a proper hidden gem in the heart of Manchester.
  • Prices are pretty reasonable for a city centre spot, so you won't break the bank enjoying a pint or two.
Cons
  • Some of the drinks can be a tad pricey, which might put a dent in your night if you're planning to stay for a few.
  • The interior could do with a bit of a refresh; it's a bit basic in places and doesn't have much to catch the eye beyond the odd quirky piece.
  • Customer service is solid but nothing extraordinary – it's reliable, though you might not get that extra wow factor.
  • The space is on the small side, so it can feel a bit cosy when it gets busy, which might not suit everyone.

Lovely dive bar. Extraordinary drinks menu. Surrounded by quirky wall art pieces. A little subterranean jewel hidden in Manchester city centre. Highly recommended.

Cracking bar you walk downstairs to. Some great history about the place if you look at the stuff on the walls. Staff very friendly. Great choice of craft beers

Always an interesting choice of ale on sale in here especially those brewed by Pomona Island. The Cask Pale was really fresh and of excellent quality - pretty cheap as well as far as city centre prices go. Terrific bar staff seem to be able to keep on top of everything as this bar fills up really quickly with the after work customers.

Small and quirky pub, fair amount of seating spaces, vast menu with some pricey drinks. The customer service is pretty standard. Nothing outstanding. The menu is quite vast and has craft beer options, The interior design could use some sprucing up, there isn't much to look at. I didn't see any food menus or any food being served at all. This includes simple starters like French fries, onion rings, etc.
