About This Pub
Ah, The Garrison Tavern – what a gem in the heart of Chelmsford! I've got to say, it's one of those places that really captures the spirit of a traditional bar with a modern twist, all wrapped up in this gorgeous 400-year-old building that's been brought back to life beautifully. The staff are just top-notch; they're so welcoming and make you feel like you're catching up with old mates, which is exactly what you want on a night out. The cocktails are a proper treat, with everything from fruity classics to innovative new ones that hit the spot, and they've got a solid menu from NUGS for when you're in the mood for some grub. Plus, it's brilliant for dancing in the evenings or even booking a VIP booth for a special occasion – and don't forget, it's dog-friendly, which is a nice touch if you're out and about with your pet. They also take safety seriously with the 'Ask for Angela' scheme, which gives me peace of mind. On the flip side, though, drinks aren't always spot-on; I've heard a few tales of them being inconsistent, so you might have to play it by ear. And blimey, it can get packed to the rafters, especially on Saturdays, which might not suit if you're after a quiet chat over a pint. Overall, it's a cracking spot for a good time, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations to enjoy the highs and navigate the lows.

As a nightspot, it's not for everyone – some might find the lively atmosphere a bit too much, depending on what you're in the mood for.

Callum was a great host/bartender, helped me and my party feels welcome me at home, was amazing though and through
Lovely bar and it is my favorite. I started coming here in January this year and I have had so many happy times meeting new people and it is so busy especially on a saturday which makes it lively.
such a great place, dog friendly and the staff are so fun to chat to, best nightclub in town with the best photographer as well, absolutely brilliant venue, love love love it here x
Hired the upstairs ballroom for our engagement party and it was perfect! We were allowed to set up around 4 hours before the party started, and when we got there the ballroom and lobby were both already set up with chairs and tables in the way we requested.
We got the whole upstairs to ourselves. The bar was stocked and staffed all night, didn’t catch the bar man’s name but he was great. You can bring your own food at no extra cost and can either hire a dj or plug your phone into one of their speakers which had amazing sound quality. We were showed around the ballroom before we booked it, and the communication via email was easy with super quick replies. They also stopped us cleaning up at the end and said they would do it all themselves which saved us a lot of time and effort. Thanks to Kara for all the help too when we were setting up!
All our guests complimented this venue and said how nice it looked, would definitely recommend it, it’s the best option in Chelmsford for a party venue!
A nightspot with a reputation, some will like, sone will loathe. Drinks are patchy at best. There is an outside area which is less busy.
