About This Pub

Ah, The Garratt & Gauge – it's one of those pubs in Wimbledon that really pulls you in with its mix of craft beers, tasty cocktails, and a buzzing atmosphere, especially when the big games are on. I love how they've got deals like cheap pints on Thursdays, and the bottomless brunch is just spot on for a fun get-together with friends – the staff go out of their way to keep things lively and ensure you're well looked after. It's a solid spot for watching rugby or football, with screens everywhere and that excited crowd energy. But, let's be honest, it's not all sunshine; the music can crank up a notch too high, making it hard to chat over a pint, and they've had some troubles with beer going off, which is disappointing for a place that's all about craft brews. Plus, their policy on not playing audio for every game can feel a bit odd, and it does get rammed on busy nights, so you might have to plan ahead. Overall, it's a decent haunt with plenty of charm, but keeping an eye on those little improvements would make it even better for us lot who fancy a relaxed evening out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • They've got a cracking selection of craft beers and cocktails, making it a top spot for a proper drink with mates.
  • The bottomless brunch is an absolute winner – think delicious wings, nachos, and attentive service that keeps the drinks flowing.
  • It's brilliant for catching live sport; plenty of screens showing football, rugby, and more, with a lively atmosphere during big events.
  • Staff are really friendly and helpful, always up for a chat and making you feel welcome.
  • Great deals like £5 pints on Thursdays make it wallet-friendly, and it's conveniently located near Wimbledon for a quick pint after work.
Cons
  • The music can be a bit too loud at times, making it tough to have a proper conversation without shouting.
  • There are occasional issues with beer quality, like kegs going off, which is a shame for a place pushing craft beer culture.
  • Some quirky policies, such as not broadcasting audio for multiple sports fixtures, can be a bit baffling and spoil the viewing experience.
  • It gets packed on weekends and during events, so you might end up queuing or struggling to find a seat.

I’ve been coming here since 2000 and I get it that things change, people, environment and so on but things should also improve as time goes on especially for bar/night life. Firstly, the music was too loud, barely could hear myself talk or others. The music was very basic, Would have been nice to hear more updated music, like drake and have them more in a remix, don’t get me wrong I love some of the old classics too. The service was great and usually, really like that we got served quickly, but on the other hand we did get served the wrong drink and it taste like it had no alcohol in it, was a cocktail. Apart from that, it’s a good bar for a little night out, just minor improvements.

I appreciate the fact that they try to build a craft beer culture in the area but they have major issues with storing kegs and beer going off, it's not just a single event and it happens quite often. It actually was an untappd verified venue for craft beer but they gave up on that and probably they should give up on serving craft beer altogether if they can't serve at the quality it's supposed to be served. This is from Wednesday last week when I went with many work colleagues for drinks after work. I ordered a beer, Dennis poppr from Mondo, which was clearly off, sour flavour and very likely infected, the bartender started to argue that this is how it's supposed to be, even if I told him I know what I'm talking about and I had the beer multiple times. He replaced it with two tribes campfire which was clearly oxidised because of the off colour and cardboard falvour, at that point I just gave up. Also seen a colleague having Hepcat Bandit, which was the same, oxidised with off colour and cardboard flavour. The only drinkable beer was Neck Oil which is not really craft anymore. Just because most people don't care or don't know, as a bartender don't assume arogantly that you know better, because you clearly don't.

Great bottomless brunch. Rosie, our hostess was amazing keeping our drinks constantly topped up and offering us unique delicious shots! Wings and nachos were a must.

Smart but down to earth bar serving a good selection of craft ales from kegs (Thursdays all craft beers are £5 per pint) open plan seating area with TV screens for showing sport, gets busy at weekends and when there is a major sporting event on. Cooked food available. Easy walking distance from the bar to the main Wimbledon railway station and the surrounding shopping area.

Decent service at the bar but hey had a policy where you can’t broadcast the audio for a football game if they’re showing more than one fixture at a time which was bizarre. They had the commentary on towards the end but on low volume. Staff were very friendly and helpful and you be a free welcome pint if you sign up to MiXR. But that’s only if you have the patience for both the availability of internet in the bar and the shitness of the MiXR app.
