About This Pub

Ah, the Prince of Wales – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its rich history and that cosy, inviting feel right in the heart of Wimbledon. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by staff who are genuinely chuffed to see you, always ready with a smile and spot-on recommendations for drinks or food. The menu's got a solid mix of classics that never disappoint, whether it's a refreshing spritz on a sunny day or some tasty bites to share, and it's brilliant for catching live music or sporting events like the Women's Euros or rugby tours – it really gets the energy up. Being dog-friendly and family-oriented adds to the charm, making it a go-to for all sorts of outings. On the flip side, though, it does tend to fill up quickly during peak times, so you might end up jostling for space, and while the prices are fair for what you get, they might not suit if you're watching the pennies. All in all, it's a top spot for a good laugh and a pint, but I'd say book ahead if you're keen on avoiding the crowds – it's worth it for the memories!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's got that classic historic charm mixed with a lively vibe that makes you feel right at home.
  • Friendly staff who go the extra mile, like Susie and the team, making sure everyone has a great time with their warm welcomes and helpful service.
  • Brilliant location near Wimbledon station, perfect for a quick stop after shopping or a day out, and it's dog-friendly so you can bring your furry friend along.
  • Tasty food and drinks with something for everyone, from delicious cocktails to hearty pub grub, and they've got live music and sports screenings that really get the crowd going.
  • It's family-friendly with top-notch facilities like WiFi and disabled access, making it a welcoming spot for all sorts of get-togethers.
Cons
  • It can get quite busy during big events or weekends, which might make it a bit tricky to find a seat or enjoy a quiet chat.
  • As a traditional pub, the menu sticks to classic options, so if you're after something really innovative or fancy, it might not quite hit the mark.
  • With moderate prices, it's good value but could feel a tad steep if you're just popping in for a quick drink compared to some other local spots.

One of my favourite pubs in London. Amazing atmosphere, very good location, close to tube station. Friendly staff including management. Tasty food. Live music every weekend - very good bands. Recommend to everyone around Wimbledon. Going back few times every month

I had a fantastic experience at “prince of wales” thanks to Susie, who was both our bartender and waiter. From the moment we arrived, Susie greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel right at home. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive. Susie was quick to take our orders and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Her friendly demeanor and genuine care for her customers truly enhanced our experience. Overall, I highly recommend prince of wales not just for the great food and drinks, but for the exceptional service provided by Susie. She made our night memorable, and I can’t wait to return!"

*edit 3/11/24 came back again and had the squid which was perfectly done. Staff again amazingly friendly and helpful definitely coming back for some live music too* This pub is the perfect blend of old school charm and modern dining experience. The atmosphere is professional and clean, the staff are really pleasant and attentive. All the food was on point, fresh and flavourful . There isn't really anything I could find fault with even the toilets were spotless. I would definitely make a B line for this place next time I am in the area. Awesome 👌 Thank-you 😀

Lovely, lively pub in Wimbledon. The vibe is ‘spot on’… starts with the friendly service, and the excellent and delicious food options (nibbles or mains). And the overall feel of the pub is simply inviting, as soon as you walk in, or stay ‘on patio’, which makes you as comfortable chatting, watching the game, or just enjoying a night or afternoon out. It’s friendly, it’s classic, and hard to pass by without stopping for a pint .. or two. So make it a regular spot - hot summers only getting hotter. Come in for a cold one. Cheers 🍺
