About This Pub
Ah, The Fox & Grapes – it's one of those places that really hits the spot for a proper pub outing. Tucked away near Wimbledon Common, it's got that classic British vibe where you can wander in after a stroll and settle in for some cracking food. The meals are a standout; I've heard from mates about the simple yet sensational dishes, like a beautifully done chicken with top-quality ingredients that leave you wanting more. The team there are an absolute delight, always cheerful and ready to lend a hand, whether it's with kids' activities or pulling together a wedding do – it sounds like they nailed it for one couple's big day. On the flip side, it's a tad annoying if you're just after a casual bevvy without a reservation; one chap mentioned getting turned away mid-walk because they were fully booked, which does take the edge off the spontaneity. All in all, it's a solid choice for good times and great nosh, but I'd say give them a ring first to make sure you get in – that way, you can focus on enjoying the company and the charm without any surprises.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely top-notch, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients that make every meal feel like a real treat – think perfectly cooked chicken dishes and hearty Sunday roasts.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always going the extra mile to make you feel at home, whether it's sorting out a family meal or helping with special events.
-
It's got a lovely, cosy atmosphere that's perfect for relaxing with friends, right on the edge of Wimbledon Common, making it ideal for a post-walk pint or a catch-up.
-
Great value for money overall, especially for the quality of the grub and the welcoming vibe, plus it's a fantastic spot for celebrations like weddings.
Cons
-
They can be a bit strict about bookings, even if you're just nipping in for a quick drink, which might put you off if you're in the mood for something spontaneous.
-
It gets busy at times, so you might struggle to get in without planning ahead, which could be frustrating on a lively day like during events or walks.

The Fox and Grapes is an absolute gem of a pub, a meal there nothing short of a huge treat.
I had one of the best meals ever there a few weeks ago…a simple chicken dish by all accounts but the sheer quality of the locally sourced ingredients and the sensitivity and skill of the chef surpassed anything I’ve tasted in any restaurant anywhere in the world.
If you are a local, you are very lucky. I am not but the Fox and Grapes is well worth a hike across London or even from further afield.
The atmosphere is friendly and unstuffy, the chefs are very talented and clearly enjoy their work enormously. The menu is creative yet accessible and the pub itself oozes authentic charm.
Went for dinner at the Fox and Grapes with my partner and another couple. The food was simply outstanding. I had the specials. Smoked haddock, cheddar and onion tart to start, then for the main course, perfectly cooked chicken breast in a delicious white sauce. The Fox has a lovely atmosphere and the service is friendly but it’s the food that really sets it apart.
I would love to have had at least a drink here. I arrived just after 1200. A big Marsden charity walk was passing by. Lucky they had a lovely Sunday to walk for such a great cause. I needed a drink. As I entered I was greeted by ‘do you have a booking’? I replied ‘do I need to book for a drink’? I was told I could sit at one of four seats at the bar and nowhere else as everyone would be arriving in the next 15 minutes. Seriously? Why not give us a table with a 1430 reservation; take our £30+; thank us; wipe the table down and greet the guests for their 1430 lunch. Why not? Because somebody feels like being a female Sergeant Major and making this their own fiefdom. Really?
Thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday roasts!
Very good value for money and a great place overall.
Also, I definitely have to mention that the whole staff was very nice and helpful. They even shared a drawing pens/pencils pouch with our kid.
Super pleasant Sunday afternoon. Looking forward to come back!
We celebrated our wedding at the Fox and Grapes and it was better than we could ever had imagined. The help we got on the run-up to the wedding and the service on the day were absolutely fantastic. The staff put together the prettiest room, arranged the flowers, the menus and the name cards for us, it looked so pretty. The food was absolutely delicious, the service impeccable and the overall organisation was spotless.
Thank you to the wonderful team and see you soon for a Sunday roast!
