About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The Flying Handbag in Blackpool – it's such a warm spot, established way back in 1994 and still going strong as the only purpose-built LGBTQ+ venue in town. After a full makeover in 2020, it's got this fresh, modern feel that really lifts your spirits, whether you're popping in for a daytime drink or staying for the nighttime fun with their resident DJs spinning tunes and drag queens like Miss Amber dishing out the laughs. I love how they've got something for everyone, from affordable food deals that make Sunday lunch feel like a proper treat to a welcoming crowd that celebrates all walks of life. The staff are absolute stars, always on hand with a smile and quick service, which makes the whole experience that bit more enjoyable. On the downside, a few folks have mentioned the DJ can be a tad stubborn, playing older tracks and skipping requests, which might leave you wanting if you're in the mood for something specific. And just a heads-up, keep tabs on your things as there have been stories of items going missing. All in all, it's a cracking place for a night out, with plenty of positives that outweigh the niggles, so if you're in Blackpool, it's definitely worth checking out for a bit of inclusive fun and good value.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming and inclusive, making it a safe and celebratory space for everyone, especially in the LGBTQ+ community.
-
They've got brilliant entertainment with resident DJs and fabulous drag queens like Miss Amber, who bring plenty of banter and keep the energy high.
-
Affordable food and drink options are a highlight, with cracking deals like Sunday lunches starting from just £7.95 – perfect for a budget-friendly bite.
-
The staff are friendly and attentive, ensuring you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's got a modern, refreshed look after the 2020 refurb, with clean facilities and a handy location near Blackpool North train station.
Cons
-
Some evenings, the DJ might stick to older tunes and ignore requests, which can feel a bit frustrating if you're after something more current.
-
There have been occasional gripes about lost items, like one person mentioning a missing jumper, so it's worth keeping an eye on your belongings.
-
While the overall vibe is great, not every night hits the mark, and the music selection isn't always to everyone's taste.

Great bar but DJ Nathan is shocking. All old music “takes requests” but never plays them. It’s not your own bedroom party luv.
Great Sunday lunch!! 2 courses £10.95 3 courses 13.95 😋
Great service, fab music. Friendly staff. Drag acts & DJs different evenings too. Check out their F/Book page for more info. We are a straight couple, but felt very welcome & comfortable here. Would rather spend money in a lovely independent such as this than a chain.
Visited on 2 accations over a weekend in Blackpool door staff where polite made us aware that there was a charge etc. bar staff where okay DJ and queens fabulous as always.
Just one thing I left my Ralph Lauren jumper if you find it please hold on to it or drop a reply to the review and I'll get InTouch to arrange some form of collection as I love 150+ miles away
Great place. A home from home. Traditional Sunday lunch at £7.95. A bargain. Plenty of diners
Great service and attentive staff. Toilets are clean. Well recommended for Sunday. Reasonable price food served through the week too.
This bar provided proper entertainment for drinking, having karaoke on live with a lyrics screen! The bar is stylishly presented, staff were helpful and pool was a blast. I had a pint of Madri, finding the leather seating to be comfortable!
