About This Pub

Ah, The Flowerpot – it's one of those pubs that really sticks in your mind after a visit. I've got to say, the real ale is spot on; they always have a fantastic range that keeps you coming back for more, and pairing that with their lively music scene makes for some brilliant evenings. The staff are just lovely, always chatting and making sure everything's just right, which adds to that cosy, community feel. Food-wise, the curry nights and snacks like pork pies are a real treat, and it's great to see it's so inclusive with options for dogs and families early on. But, let's be honest, the location can be a bit of a faff to navigate, and I've heard a few tales of drinks not quite hitting the mark, like that wine with unexpected bubbles. Plus, with doors not opening until the afternoon most days, it might not suit everyone for a quick midday stop. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a memorable night in Derby – just go in with realistic expectations and you're in for a good time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The real ale selection is top-notch, with a great variety that ale enthusiasts will absolutely love.
  • Live music and gigs are a real highlight – it's a fabulous spot for catching tribute bands or dancing the night away.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and always go the extra mile, making you feel right at home.
  • They've got some cracking food options, like the curry nights and pork pies, which are highly recommended.
  • It's got that quirky, Tardis-like charm – small on the outside but surprisingly spacious inside, with plenty of room for everyone.
  • Dog-friendly and family-friendly until 7:30pm, plus disabled access and free WiFi, make it welcoming for all sorts.
Cons
  • The location can feel a bit awkward to get to, tucked away as it is, so it might take a moment to find your way.
  • Some drinks, like the wine, have had issues such as bubbles from the glass washing, which can put a dampener on things.
  • Opening hours start quite late on weekdays from 3pm, so it's not ideal if you're after a spot for a lunchtime pint.
  • It can get busy during events, and while the crowds are managed well, you might find it a tad overwhelming at times.

Location can seem a bit awkward, but it is a nice and quirky little pub. Proper TARDIS, small on the outside, large on the inside. They do have live performances here and there. You can book rooms for meetings and the likes. We went on curry night, which I must say was very good, they had different styles from different countries. Extra spice can be added on if you are looking for more adventure with your taste buds.

Fantastic pub with staff who cannot do enough for you. Great selection of drinks and snacks, recommend the Pork Pies. Also has the added bonus of a multi-storey car park across the road, secure parking 24hrs for £7.80. Great venue for the gigs.

Fabulous music venue, great to stand n dance to your favourite tribute bands. Real ales are excellent too. Friendly staff and multi storey car park just 100 yards away £1.40 all night after 8pm.

A good venue for seeing small bands. The room has toilets, a bar, and plenty of room for the crowd and a decent sized stage. Outside of the gig room, the bar area is quite relaxed with plenty of seating. It got 4 stars, as the wine came with bubbles, possibly from the glass washing, and my ale wasn't cold. There's a handy multi-storey car park right next door.

Watched many tribute acts here and always a great night out. Loads of ales, they always do a very strong cider which cleans your pipes. Often a mix bag of folk in here, dependant on the acts. Staff are always super friendly and the crowds are managed really well. If you want decent beer and a bit of live music, this is your place.
