About This Pub

Ah, The Elizabethan – it's got that lovely historical nod, named after a Scottish royal, and it's become a bit of a go-to in Dunfermline for a relaxed pint or a hearty meal. From what I've gathered from chats with others, the food really shines; think delicious dishes like lasagna or those mouthwatering kebabs that leave you wanting more, all served up with a smile from the friendly team. It's especially nice if you're celebrating a birthday, as they throw in a free meal, which is a brilliant little touch that makes you feel special. The atmosphere is just right for unwinding with friends, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or a full dinner. But, to keep it real, it's not all smooth sailing – there have been a few moans about seating feeling cramped or tables not being as tidy, and sometimes the ordering system gets a bit muddled, like figuring out if you're meant to go to the bar or wait for service. Still, with a solid rating overall, it's worth swinging by, just maybe plan ahead if you're avoiding any potential hiccups from private events. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out, with the highs outweighing the lows for most.

Cons
  • Sometimes there's confusion with ordering, like not knowing if it's table service or at the bar, which can throw off the flow of your visit

  • Private bookings might take priority, leaving things a tad disorganised for walk-ins at busy times

Got seated in an area that was not set up due to a private booking (which seemed to take priority) cramped seating and dirty tables all around. We had no communication on whether we order at the bar or if it was table service, we then went to the bar to order only to be told it was table service. It had been 15 minutes since being sat. Starters came out and honestly were lovely, however the mains were disappointing for the price. Both were dry and not much taste apart from the taste of the burnt garlic bread and chicken. No check back was given to us or the surrounding tables. When went to pay the bill and asked if we would like to leave a tip, the girl did not look impressed when we said no. As managers of a restaurant we always ensure to tip however we would not expect to be given a tip had we offered this service to guests. After wanting to come and try the restaurant for a while we were disappointed and feel that the restaurant has far much more to offer.

Our meal was lasagna and garlic bread. And for dessert we enjoyed cheesecake with raspberry sauce topping. I was part of a party of 35. We were served quickly.

Overall Thoughts: in Dunfermline Scotland for a High School Field Trip. Obviously as an American we LOVE food! We had some time before we returned to Edinburgh and needed some dinner. I’d give this place a 4.5 out of 5. Friendly staff, great food, great atmosphere! 1. Restaurant Type: Bar & Bar Type Food 2. Coke Or Pepsi: Coke 3. Ketchup Type: Heinz 4. Price/Value: affordable 5. Atmosphere: Bar/Burger Joint 6. Food Quality: Good Quality 7. Service: Friendly Staff 8. Parking: NA 9. Must Haves: we were with a big group so our options were only Lasagna & Macaroni and cheese. The lasagna was actually very good. The macaroni and cheese was good but nothing special.
