About This Pub

Ah, The Dick Whittington – what a gem of a pub in the heart of Gloucester! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's got this warm, welcoming feel that really draws you in, thanks to the super-friendly bar staff who go out of their way to make you feel like you're part of the gang. I love how they've breathed new life into this old 16th-century building, creating a cheerful atmosphere that's just perfect for sinking a pint or two with mates. The drinks are a real highlight, with a fantastic range of independent beers, real ales, and more on tap, so there's something for everyone whether you're after a classic cider or something a bit more adventurous. Plus, with extras like a dart board, pool table, and a jukebox packed with tunes, it's easy to while away the evening. They're even set up for functions, which is brilliant if you're planning a casual do. But, let's be honest, it's not all rosy – the food options are still in the works, so you might need to grab a bite elsewhere before heading over. And the operating hours look a tad confusing with those mixed-up schedules, which could put a dampener on spontaneous visits. Overall, though, it's a solid spot with a 4.1 rating that shows it's doing most things right, and I'd say it's well worth a try if you're in the area for a proper pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – friendly, chatty, and make you feel right at home, just like Sarah and Summer did in those reviews.
  • It's got a fantastic atmosphere, with a cheerful vibe that's perfect for a relaxed evening out, especially in that historic 16th-century building.
  • Loads of great drinks on tap, including a solid selection of independent beers, real ales, ciders, and lagers to suit all tastes.
  • Plenty of entertainment options like a dart board, pool table, and a jukebox with a good mix of music, plus it's becoming a go-to spot for live music.
  • They're up for hosting functions, which makes it a handy choice for get-togethers with friends or family.
Cons
  • The food situation isn't quite there yet – they're still sorting out the kitchen, so you might have to head elsewhere if you're after a proper meal.
  • The opening hours seem a bit muddled; there are conflicting times listed, which could leave you scratching your head about when to pop in.
  • No website means it's trickier to check out menus or events in advance – you'd have to rely on Google or just turn up and see.

Just reopened and looks nice inside. They have a dart board, pool table and a juke box which seems to have a good variety of music on. They are looking to do food soon but just getting kitchen sorted. They have a good selection of Real Ales and Ciders and Lagers. They can hold functions and do hold live music. Was a nice atmosphere and bar staff friendly and welcoming. Plenty of seating. You can find more information on Facebook. Will be going again and recommend. Reasonably priced.

This city centre pub oozes character from the first moment you see it, the building itself dates from the 16th century and parts of it look older. It's run by a young couple who are putting tremendous energy into the place, and it's rapidly becoming established as one of Gloucester's premier music venues, with music of various genres on offer several times a week, generally with free admission. The food menu isn't large, but the quality is fantastic with something on offer for every diet, and smaller bar snacks can be found too. The prices are good and the atmosphere is fantastic!
