About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Dark Horse – it's one of those places in Bath that just hits the mark for a proper good evening out. I love how they've nailed the cocktails; whether you're after a classic like an Old Fashioned or something more adventurous, the bartenders really know their stuff and use fantastic ingredients to make each drink feel special. The staff are brilliant too, always chatting away and making sure you're looked after, which adds such a welcoming touch. The decor's spot on as well – that dark and moody atmosphere makes it feel cosy and elegant, ideal for sinking into a seat with friends. On the flip side, it's often packed, so booking ahead is a must, and the age restrictions and no-fancy-dress rule might put off some groups looking for a more relaxed vibe. Plus, with time limits on tables and prices that add up, it's not the spot for a spontaneous pint or if you're watching the pennies. All in all, it's a top choice if you're in the mood for quality over quantity, but just keep those little niggles in mind for the full picture.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The cocktails are absolutely spot on – from classic mixes to creative twists, they're crafted with real skill and top-notch ingredients, making every sip a delight.
  • The staff are an absolute gem; they're friendly, professional, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, whether it's the bartender mixing up something special or the team on the door.
  • The atmosphere is just lovely – it's got that dark, moody vibe that's perfect for a relaxed evening, with cool decor that adds a touch of class without being over the top.
  • It's in a brilliant spot in central Bath, making it easy to pop in after exploring the city, and they've got options for groups up to 12, which is great for catching up with mates.
Cons
  • It can get fully booked quickly, so you'll probably need to sort out a reservation in advance to avoid disappointment on a busy night.
  • With the 21-and-over policy and no fancy dress allowed, it might not suit everyone, especially if you're planning a lively hen do or want to bring along younger friends.
  • Bookings are limited to about 2 to 2.5 hours, which feels a bit rushed if you're hoping for a long, leisurely catch-up over drinks.
  • As a cocktail bar, it leans towards the moderate price side, so it might stretch the budget if you're after something more casual or affordable.

We came here for cocktails on a Saturday night and I can honestly say it was the best venue we visited in Bath. The service was up beat and spectacular with all staff being super professional and friendly, from the guy on the door to the bartender. Every customer was treated with respect and made to feel special! The cocktails were delicious, especially “when in Rome” and the constant free refill of cucumber water was an amazing touch. Please visit this place! You’ll love it

We were here on St Patrick’s Day four years ago. The woman bartender made me an Old Fashioned with 12 year old Red Breast (St Patrick’s Day Special) and her homemade bitters (chocolate / chili bitters?) and it’s still the best Old Fashion I’ve had to this day. I’ve bored so many people to death talking about it. I would love the recipe.

A fantastic cocktail bar in central Bath, great service with friendly, knowledgeable staff. Very cool decor. Strong selection of spirits with some great rums, good menu with variety and happy to go off menu if it's not too busy. The Mai Tai and the Painkiller were stellar A++ 🍹

This little bar is brilliant! We unfortunately didn't get to spend much time here but the service was excellent, such a friendly girl on the front of house. We had a couple of great drinks. One was the white pepper non-alcoholic drink and that was really refreshing. The atmosphere is dark and moody but in a good way. Like a really nice relaxed lounge bar. The music is not too loud. They have a couple of small rooms with sofas, so if you are in a group then these would be perfect for you to all hang out in. The bar is cool and their cocktail selection is amazing. Would definitely go back!

Absolutely fantastic evening at the Dark Horse! Big thanks to our lovely bartender Sarah for treating us to amazing Infinite Daiquiri and many more vodka and gin skilfully crafted cocktails! Classy and relaxing atmosphere of the bar really makes it a top spot on the list of places to be at when you’re visiting Bath😎👍🏼
