About This Pub
Ah, The Crown in Bristol – it's one of those places that feels like an old mate, you know? Tucked away in the city centre, it's brilliant for a cheeky night out with its late hours going till 3 AM and those unbeatable happy hour offers that keep the pints flowing without emptying your wallet. I've heard the quiz nights are an absolute blast, full of good-natured fun and a crowd that's up for a chat, which really makes it stand out. On the flip side, though, the sound system's a bit of a letdown; it's often too quiet, which can make dancing feel more like a shuffle in the dark. And let's not gloss over the staff – some are lovely and make you feel right at home, but others can be a tad sharp with their comments, which might sour the evening for a few. Overall, it's got that rough-around-the-edges charm that's quintessentially Bristol, so if you're up for a mix of the good and the not-so-good, it's worth popping in for a pint and seeing what all the fuss is about.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's got that iconic Bristol vibe, perfect for a late-night sesh until 3 AM without any entry fees.
-
Happy hour deals are a winner – like four pints for just £10, or cheap singles and doubles from 4 PM to 8 PM.
-
The quiz nights are a right laugh, with fun questions and a friendly crowd that makes for a great evening out.
-
Staff can be really welcoming and helpful, adding to the cosy, character-filled atmosphere.
-
It's affordable all round, so you won't break the bank for a good time in the city centre.
Cons
-
The sound system leaves a lot to be desired – it's often too quiet, which can kill the vibe for dancing or live events.
-
Some of the staff might come across as a bit sarky or rude, which can put a dampener on things.
-
The atmosphere has changed over the years and isn't quite as edgy or unique as it used to be, feeling a tad generic now.
-
It can be quieter than expected, especially if you're after a buzzing night out.
-
Not everyone's cup of tea, as it might not live up to the hype for those seeking something more vibrant.

I used to love the crown but it's always been too quiet and they've somehow made the soundsystem even worst and its even more quiet than it was before, are the subs just for decoration?? Please please get some drivers in them so we can actually dance in the club 🤦♂️🤦♀️
On the bright side, the bar staff are really lovely, efficient and good at their jobs and there is a great atmosphere around it sometimes! For that reason I've given it 3 stars which is honestly generous considering I am not going back there for an event unless they sort out better sound so you can actually hear the music the DJs are playing properly...
Went for karaoke last night and was having a great time w friends - but the person hosting (short lady with black hair, plays the saxophone) kind of ruined the first part of the night for a couple of us due to her overly sarcastic comments and just rude demeanor (still had loads of fun though - just wasn’t sure what her deal was). Maybe that’s part of the character of the pub (?). The other staff were sound and are usually sound whenever we/I go to The Crown. Then again it is bank holiday weekend and I probably would be aggy too if I had to work a very busy evening so fair enough. Still a great pub :)))
Just like most things was way better in the mid 2010's what was a unique pub with a great atmosphere is no a sea of Vintage kilo attenders and Vegans. Personal preference but I always liked the Grungy Death metal goth Vibe even though I wasn't one of them. The New Girl that was on the bar bless her she was ace not easy having your 1st shift on a Busy Friday night, Good luck hope it works out for you 💪🏼
I came for the Tuesday quiz night and it was great fun. Questions weren't too niche/specific, there was prizes to be won and overall it was a nice friendly atmosphere. They were serving food but I didn't try it so can't comment although it looked good, I got a coke on draft which tasted more like sparkling water but it didn't affect my experience much.
Definitely recommend for the quiz night!
The Crown might not be my usual go-to, but it certainly has its own character. I enjoyed the beer I had, and the staff and bouncers were all friendly and welcoming. While it may not be my personal favorite, it’s a good place to experience a bit of difference oh and opens till 3am which is wild!
