About This Pub
Ah, The Crown – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a good British spot, nestled in a quiet area with beautiful fields around for a peaceful escape. I love how they've got this spacious garden that's ideal for a sunny afternoon pint or a winter evening by the fire; it's just the sort of place you'd want to linger in with mates. The food stands out too – they're all about fresh, local ingredients in their seasonal menus, and from what folks are saying, dishes like the honey mustard sausages and fish and chips are absolute winners, with that extra touch of quality that makes you feel like you've had something special. The staff often get praised for being warm and understanding, especially with families, which makes it feel welcoming for all sorts of gatherings. On the flip side, though, there have been a few grumbles about service not being as quick as it should be, like when you're eager for a pizza after a walk and end up waiting without anyone coming over – that's a shame when the place isn't even packed. Prices are fair for what you get, but they might feel a bit steep if you're just after something simple. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed meal or drink, and with an average rating of 4.1, most people seem to leave happy, so I'd say give it a go and you'll likely have a great time, just keep an eye on those busy moments.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The location is absolutely charming, tucked away in a peaceful hamlet with a lovely large garden perfect for unwinding on sunny days or cosying up by the open fire in winter.
-
The food is a real highlight – fresh, seasonal menus using local ingredients, with standout dishes like the sticky honey mustard sausages and the best fish and chips I've heard of, complete with tasty mushy peas.
-
The staff are generally friendly and attentive, making it a welcoming spot for families and groups, with great service that adds to the homely atmosphere.
-
It's got a great vibe overall, with a commitment to sustainability like using 100% renewable electricity, which is a nice touch for those who care about the environment.
Cons
-
Service can be inconsistent at times; one experience mentioned waiting ages for someone to take an order, even when it wasn't busy, which is a bit frustrating.
-
The prices are on the moderate side, but some might find the food a tad expensive for a pub meal, especially if you're just popping in for a quick bite.
-
While most reviews are positive, there are occasional gripes about not getting served promptly, which could spoil an otherwise lovely visit.

Seems like a really nice pub with an excellent beer garden. Had a drink after a long nice walk and we were looking forward to trying some Pizzas. Unfortunately got tired of waiting for someone to come over and take our order. It wasn't even busy and they were happy to serve the tables next to us. We left disappointed but found somewhere else to try on the way back.
On Monday the 3rd of march I had the sticky honey mustard sausages for starter and they were amazing. Then went on to the fish and chips. Have to say the best I’ve ever had, lovely crispy batter, not sure what chips they were using but really tasty and crisp. But the best for me was the mushy peas and being a Mancunian, that’s saying something. Highly recommended.
Really lovely dining experience. The staff were very attentive, we did come with my two year old nephew who does like to wonder a little so it was lovely that the staff were so polite and understanding. The food was amazing and presentation was excellent. Best pub dinner we’ve all had in a while. Will definitely be returning.
Good food, great atmosphere and amazing service from some lovely and friendly people. Ros was an amazing waitress, 10/10 experience because of her!
Booked for a special occasion. Was greeted with friendly welcome and taken to our seat. 2 adults and a child. Food was a little expensive but nice country pub so happy to pay.
Main meal came out quickly and was very very tasty. Would love to know what they do to the carrots, they were something else! Whole family enjoyed main dinner.
Unfortunately after the main course is where we was let down. Our waitress seemed to disappear (I think end of shift) but we was left waiting a very long time for dessert, eventually as had a 3 year old with me had to get up and ask at the bar.
But once ordered the dessert came over quickly, seemed like they only had 1 person serving the meals. It was not very busy in the pub.
Pub does allow dogs to roam (not a dog person so a little put off, but I understand it's a traditional country pub)
Anyways, great food, would eat again.
Just feel needs more staff to be perfect.
