About This Pub
Ah, The Cross Foxes – it's one of those classic pubs in Chester that you can't help but appreciate for its straightforward charm. I mean, picture this: you're settling in with a refreshing pint, the footie's on the telly, and there's a buzz in the air that just feels right for a casual get-together. The new pool tables are an absolute highlight; they're in top nick, and it's such a laugh challenging mates to a game. Plus, with reasonable prices, you won't feel like you're breaking the bank just for a night out. They've got a beer garden for those sunny days, and options like Wi-Fi and sports channels make it versatile for watching the big matches or even hosting an event in their function room. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few tales of some bar staff not quite hitting the mark with their manners – it's a shame when you're expecting a warm welcome and it doesn't quite land. And if you're a real ale aficionado, you might find the selection a bit limited, which is a pity in a place like this. Overall, it's got that genuine pub feel that's hard to beat, but it's worth going in with your eyes open to the occasional rough edge, so you can make the most of the good times.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's a proper traditional pub with a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for catching live sports while enjoying a pint.
-
They've got brand new pool tables in great condition, making it a fun spot for a game with friends.
-
The staff are generally friendly and helpful, which really adds to the overall experience.
-
Prices are reasonable and not inflated like some other places in Chester, so you get good value for your money.
-
There's a beer garden, outside area, and even an events room for hire, plus Wi-Fi and sports channels like TNT and Sky.
Cons
-
A couple of the bar staff can be a bit rude or lacking in manners, which puts a damper on things sometimes.
-
Only one real ale on offer, which might disappoint if you're after a wider selection of brews.
-
It tends to attract a younger, more boisterous crowd, so it might not feel right for a peaceful catch-up.

Great traditional pub with brand new pool tables ,friendly staff.Prices not inflated like most chester pubs
I have been in this pub a few times staff normally lovely and polite , apart from one bar person they have now been behind the bar twice .
Never asks me what I would like just looks at me then puts the card machine down in front of me .not a please or thank you or even a word said.
Probably the most rudest bar person I have ever come across.
Been in on a number of occasions now. Clientele seem really good and can get a conversation going, football on and there are pool tables too. Disappointingly the girl/guy behind the bar really needs to get some customer manners!
Love this place, always helpful bar workers. My mate visited and we came here to play pool. Nice pub atmosphere, with pleasant locals too. Pool tables in excellent condition. Will definitely return.
Bar staff fine, would have been 4☆ but only 1 real ale (but good). Pub definitely caters for the younger/boisterous element!!! Feel you may need to be street wise if you came here at the wrong time?
