About This Pub
Ah, The Cricketers – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a welcoming local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks really rave about the fantastic range of drinks; whether you're after a classic ale, a fine wine, or an impressive array of flavoured ciders, they've got you covered, and it's clear that's a big draw for many. The atmosphere is another highlight – with live music popping up now and then, and plenty of screens for watching the footie or other sports, it's easy to see why people pop in regularly for a good time. That beer garden is a standout too; it's been nicely extended and makes for a sunny spot to chill out, especially on a clear day. On the flip side, though, some have mentioned the prices being a bit on the high side for what you get, like paying extra for a beer when there are cheaper options nearby, which could put a dampener on things if you're watching the pennies. Overall, it's a solid choice for a night out or a casual meet-up, but it's worth going in with your eyes open to balance out the costs with all the perks.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The selection of beers, ales, wines, and spirits is spot on – especially that massive range of flavoured ciders, which is a real treat for anyone who's into that.
-
It's got a brilliant atmosphere with live music and sports on the screens, making it a top spot for catching the game or enjoying a gig.
-
The beer garden is an absolute gem; it's been extended and turns into a lovely sun trap, perfect for a relaxed afternoon.
-
Service is pretty decent even when it's buzzing, like during big events such as the FA Cup final.
-
They've got a good variety of bar snacks, which go down a treat if you're after something simple to munch on.
Cons
-
Beer prices can be a bit steep compared to other pubs in Consett – for instance, a pint of Moretti might set you back more than you'd expect, which feels a tad unfair.
-
Without a website or much of an online presence, it's not always easy to check opening times or what's on, which might leave you caught out.

Have to say it's been years since I had been in The Cricketers... OMG what a difference totally extended and the beer garden lovely sun trap. The food was bar snacks but had a full range. I drink flavoured ciders..... It has the biggest range I've ever seen in a pub.
Good here once a week for drinks there have a great range of beers 🍻. Sometimes have live music playing.
Proud to call it my local. Great selection of beers and other drinks, and often has sport on one of its many screens, including a massive outdoor one. Have also had the pleasure of some great bands playing, so yes, well worth it.
Great pub, great atmosphere - I would have given them 5 stars but their disparity in beer prices against other Consett pubs of similar ilk needs addressing - £4.60 for Moretti is a £1 more than other pubs....captured audience though.
