About This Pub

Ah, The Corn Exchange – it's one of those Wetherspoons pubs that you can't help but appreciate for its no-nonsense charm, tucked away in a stunning 1850s building right in the heart of Leicester. I have to say, what really stands out is how it blends that historic feel with a buzzing atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed evening with friends or even a quick bite after a day out. The affordable prices make it a winner for grabbing a decent meal and some drinks without breaking the bank, and they've got loads of options for vegetarians, which is always a plus. On the flip side, though, it does get crowded, and I've heard a few folks mention it feeling a bit stuffy upstairs, so you might want to aim for a quieter time if you're not up for the hustle. Then there's the odd food mishap, like something arriving not quite as hot as you'd hope, but hey, at these prices, it's all part of the experience. Overall, if you're after a straightforward, enjoyable pub visit with a dash of history, it's well worth a go – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic building is an absolute charmer, with its soaring ceilings and elegant ironwork that really transport you back in time while you're enjoying a pint.
  • Prices are spot on for a budget-friendly night out – you get great value for your money with tasty meals and a wide selection of drinks.
  • It's in a brilliant central spot in Leicester, making it easy to pop in after exploring the market or before heading to other restaurants.
  • The atmosphere is always lively, especially with the student crowd, which adds a fun buzz to the place.
  • They've got a solid menu with plenty of veggie and vegan options, and the service is quick enough to keep things moving along nicely.
Cons
  • It can get pretty packed, so finding a seat might take a bit of patience, even in a big space like this one.
  • Upstairs can feel a tad too warm at times, which might leave you wishing for better air flow on a busy evening.
  • Some food items, like that cold muffin in the breakfast, don't always hit the mark, though you do get what you pay for.
  • The toilets have that typical Spoons reputation – not the best, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're fussy about facilities.
  • While it's generally affordable, the occasional letdown in food quality might make you think twice for a special occasion.

You either like Wetherspoons or you don't, but despite the camouflage of scaffolding, we enjoyed a tasty meal and drinks, in a lively atmosphere, probably the student population on a night out. Centrally located amongst restaurants, it made for a pleasant evening.

Good location, and a big place but was still hard to get a seat so obviously popular. I was feeling very warm upstairs where we sat, maybe air con needs looked at? Toilets weren't a million miles away which is surprising considering Spoons reputation for that haha. Came back next day for breakfast before I travelled home too

I recently visited The Corn Exchange, and it’s an absolute gem in the heart of Leicester! Housed in a gorgeous 1850s building, this former trading hub still retains its historic charm with soaring ceilings, elegant ironwork, and wooden floors that echo the footsteps of the past. Yet, it manages to combine that vintage atmosphere with a fresh, modern pub experience. Right as you step in, you’re greeted by a bright, open space—perfect for anyone wanting to chat over a drink or simply admire the architectural beauty. The bar area is huge and well-stocked, with a great selection of local ales, ciders, and craft beers. The friendly staff definitely know their stuff if you need recommendations! The menu offers plenty of comforting pub classics alongside some tasty modern twists. Whether you’re craving a hearty plate of fish and chips or something lighter, there’s something to suit all taste buds. I also appreciated the spacious seating and laid-back vibe, which makes it ideal for casual meetups or a cheerful night out. One standout feature is the gorgeous upstairs balcony area—perfect for taking in the lively buzz below while enjoying a pint. And if the weather’s nice, don’t forget the outdoor seating—it’s a lovely spot for people-watching in the heart of the city. All in all, The Corn Exchange marries Leicester’s history with a welcoming, modern feel. It’s got character, charm, and great food to match—definitely worth a visit if you’re ever in town!

Quick breakfast. Found table. Queue to order. Great menu with lots of veggie options. Ordered vegan breaker and smashed avocado on muffins. Helped ourselves to Lavassa Latte. Food arrived within 10 mins. Veggie sauce was a left down and the muffin was cold. You get for what you pay. We had another of latte and left. All OK but will not be returning anytime soon

Decent Wetherspoon's pub about ten minutes walk from Leicester Railway Station. Six cask beers on handpump when I visited. Plenty of outdoor seating. As the name suggests, the pub is located in a former Corn Exchange built in 1850. It is a grade II* listed building.
