About This Pub
Ah, The Cock Inn – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a second home, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this brilliant, lively atmosphere where everyone from locals to visitors can kick back and enjoy themselves. The staff are an absolute delight, always quick with a smile and a pint, and the beer is affordably priced without skimping on quality. It's fantastic for watching the footie or rugby, with live music nights that really get the place buzzing, and that beer terrace out back is perfect for a sunny afternoon. But let's be honest, it's not without its flaws – the exterior looks a bit neglected, and inside, things are showing signs of wear, like it needs a good paint job to freshen up. Plus, it's on the snug side, which is great for mingling but could feel a bit tight when the crowds roll in. Overall, if you're after a genuine, unpretentious spot for a pint and a chat, it's well worth a visit, especially with that solid 4.4 rating backing it up. I'd say give it a go and see for yourself – it's got that heartwarming pub spirit that's hard to beat.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's got that warm, welcoming feel with friendly regulars and staff that make you feel right at home.
-
Beer selection is spot on and reasonably priced, especially the cask ales which are always well kept.
-
It's got a classic old-fashioned layout with different nooks for a quiet chat or even getting some work done, plus a large beer terrace out back for when the weather's nice.
-
Brilliant for watching sports or catching live music, and they've got events like parties that really bring people together.
-
The bar staff are efficient, professional, and always up for a chat, making it a top choice for a night out with mates.
Cons
-
The outside looks a bit tired and worn out, which might put some off at first glance.
-
Inside, it could do with a fresh coat of paint to spruce things up – it's got that old charm, but it's starting to show its age.
-
The space is on the small side, which can make it feel cosy on a good day, but it might get a tad cramped when it's busy.

This has been my local pub for many years now. It has a great atmosphere, friendly regulars and efficient and warm bar staff. The beer is not overpriced and being a very old fashioned pub in terms of layout, it has different areas where you can be on your own, be quiet, even work and other areas where you can be sociable and have a chat. The landlord, Adam, is a highly skilled individual who has highly developed interpersonal skills. It's rare to find an "old fashioned" pub that isn't too loud and isn't a "gastro pub". There are a number of good restaurants and takeaways nearby though. Not the most luxurious pub in town, but by far the warmest and most friendly. I believe it may be one of very few Stortford pubs that still has a pool table, yet amazingly, most of the time, there are still places to find to just sit, chat or read a book. I even like the fact that it is located on the Hockerill lights so you can look down the hill from the front into the town...
Friendly and boisterous town pub. Looks worn out from outside and the inside could do with some paint, but don't let that put you off. It's an old pub that's kept it's old charms. Sport on telly in several rooms and has a large beer terrace out back. Cask ales are well kept. Good place to wait while your curry cooks (there are 3 excellent Indian takeaways a stones throw away).
Fabulous pub for both locals and visitors. Great live music, close to Fabulous restaurants too.
Bar staff always friendly as is the landlord. Also shows most football and rugby games.
Attended a 40th birthday party. Adam was extremely friendly making sure partygoers had a great time. Bar staff professional, friendly & quick. Only downside of the pub is that it's too small! Cosy some would say, but that prompted people to interact with others. Also had a resident band who provided the music. A great atmosphere all round. Would recommend. As a guest I didn't pay for drinks & food provided by hosts.
Always good for a night out with the work mates. Great for a drink and a game of pool. Good atmospher and lovely staff.
