About This Pub

Ah, The Clarendon – what a delightful spot it is, tucked away in Clarendon Park. From what I've gathered, it's got that timeless pub feel with its 1930s roots, all spruced up with a modern twist from a 2019 refurb, making it feel fresh yet familiar, like popping round to an old mate's house who's given the place a bit of a facelift. The food really steals the show; folks rave about the fresh, locally sourced dishes that blend British classics with exciting flavours from around the world – I'm talking crispy chicken that's perfectly done, bang bang options, and even those Yorkshire pudding-wrapped roasts that sound like a proper treat. Service-wise, it's all about that personal touch, especially if you're hosting a group, with staff bending over backwards to make sure everything's just right. It's a brilliant place for sports fans too, with big screens to cheer on the team, but on the flip side, it can get a bit heaving during matches, which might not be ideal if you're in the mood for a peaceful evening. Prices are moderate, so it's worth it for a full meal, but it might not be the go-to for a quick, cheap bevvy. All in all, it's a solid choice for a night out, offering that perfect balance of good grub, great company, and a welcoming buzz – I'd say give it a try if you're in Leicester and up for something reliable and enjoyable.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a cracking variety of modern British dishes mixed with global flavours – think tasty grilled sandwiches, burgers, and salads that really hit the mark
  • Service is top-notch and incredibly welcoming, especially for groups or events like Christmas dinners, where the staff go out of their way to make everything personal and enjoyable
  • It's got a lovely, warm atmosphere that blends classic 1930s pub charm with a fresh, retro refurb, making it feel like a proper cosy spot for a catch-up or watching the footie on the big screens
  • Tucked away in a quirky part of Leicester, it's a hidden gem that's perfect for enjoying the outdoors when the weather's nice, with options for bar bites and sharing plates that encourage a good laugh with mates
Cons
  • It can get a bit lively and crowded during sports events or peak times, which might make it tricky if you're after a quiet pint and a chat
  • Being in a less central spot, it might not be the easiest to find if you're not familiar with the area, and with moderate prices, it could feel a tad steep for just a casual visit

Lovely spot tucked away in a quirky part of Leicester. Food was spot on.... It's as if the Chicken and chips were air fried, no oiliness but nice and crispy. We ate outside as the weather was awesome. Highly recommend the bang bang Chicken too! We did a mix of the bar bites deal and the sharing loaded fries.... Generous portions and hit the spot.

Recently (10/12), I hosted a Christmas dinner for 20 students at The Clarendon Inn and from the moment I arrived to when I left the service and communication was exceptional. It was an extremely personal experience, nothing was too much to ask. The pub’s warm, welcoming atmosphere set the perfect tone for the evening, and made it a comfortable setting for both quiet and group conversations. The food was to a very high standard and has a very wide variety of choices suitable for everyone. Given the size of the party the food still arrived at the same time and there was no errors (which is remarkable given the size of the party). Everyone commented on how nice it was. Overall, I cannot fault the experience and I will be returning. Thank you to everyone that made the evening so special — especially the bar staff, really appreciate the support and hospitality. Hope you all have a good Christmas and hope to see you in the new year.

The Clarendon’s ‘Yorkshire pudding wrapped roast dinner’ popped up on my Facebook feed via ‘Cool As Leicester’, I linked my sisters on the post and we decided to go. I didn’t realise this was a sports bar; should have when I made the reservation and the chap I spoke to had to check football wasn’t on as he couldn’t take a booking else…luckily for us it wasn’t. When we arrived one sister panicked (or had a strop rather) about the sport on tv but there was no sound and some good music was playing so yay. Three of us ordered the rump steak wrap and one the chicken. Our server was called Charlie and he was a credit to the establishment; charming, attentive, informative but not in your face. Charlie was an excellent server, one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Hats off to the kitchen team too, we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, quite delicious, the drinks were also served in decent glassware which we sisters appreciated. I enjoyed the visit so much I’m going to take my husband and teen boys at some point. The one thing I wasn’t sure about was the parking, I didn’t know where to park.

Writing this in the car on the way home our experience was that good! Brilliant service from start to finish - big thanks to Joe for his menu recommendations and for tending to us! Another thanks to chef Ollie for some of the best food we’ve had in a while - the BEST halloumi fries and truffle cauliflower cheese! Thanks guys, will definitely be returning soon!

One of the pubs that has survived in Leicester just outside the city centre. Re-vamped a while ago, it now focuses on food and big-screen sport. Having eaten here a few times, most recently, as pictured, is the Sunday dinner wrapped in Yorkshire pudding..... A wrap need to do one thing- hold together. This does. Remarkably well. Needs to as well....it comes with a bowl of gravy.... Thick gravy.... Tasty gravy... Gravy you can drink....which I did after dipping this substantial wrap to its conclusion.... This is one if the best things to eat in Leicester in my opinion....amazing. Service was top This is a busy pub and it is proper pub.... Sky sports and footy on. Highly recommend 👌 thanks.
