About This Pub

Ah, The Chequers, what a gem in Luton! From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a proper pub experience. The food stands out a mile – think delicious Jamaican-inspired meals that folks are raving about, like that amazing curry mutton or fresh jerk that's spot on and reasonably priced. Pair that with a big beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun while catching the footie, and you've got yourself a winner for a laid-back afternoon or evening. The atmosphere is spot on too, with friendly vibes and music that really brings the place to life, making it feel welcoming and full of character. On the flip side, it's a shame there's no website to easily look up the menu or any events, and the opening times can be a bit confusing, so you might end up planning around that. Overall, if you're up for something a bit different from the usual pub fare, I'd say give it a go – it's got that 4.4 rating for a reason, and the recent reviews are all glowing, showing it's still going strong.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – especially the Jamaican dishes like curry mutton and jerk, which taste just like a proper home-cooked meal, fresh and full of flavour.
  • It's got a really welcoming atmosphere with great music that adds so much character, making it perfect for a casual catch-up or watching the football in their big beer garden.
  • Prices are spot on for a good night out; it's inexpensive, so you can enjoy top-tier grub without breaking the bank.
  • The service is spot on too, with friendly staff that make you feel right at home, and they've got daily food promotions for a bit of variety.
Cons
  • There isn't an official website, which makes it a tad tricky to check the latest updates or menu details before heading over.
  • The operating hours listed seem a bit muddled, so you might want to double-check to avoid any surprises, especially on Sundays when it varies.
  • It might appeal more to those who fancy Jamaican cuisine, so if you're after something more traditional pub grub, it could feel a bit niche.

Friendly little pub, big beer garden. Was perfect to spend a few hours, watching the football before an airport pickup. Amazing curry mutton. I can't wait to go back and try more food. Great atmosphere and the music really gives it extra character.
