About This Pub

Ah, The Sugar Loaf – it's one of those Luton gems that feels like a proper old-school pub, tucked away on New Town Street, where you can kick back and enjoy a cold one or tuck into some seriously good grub. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks absolutely rave about the welcoming vibe; it's cosy, warm, and buzzing with energy, especially on those special entertainment nights that keep things lively. The Sunday roast comes highly recommended – it's a real winner, and the food in general seems generous and well-prepared, like when someone mentioned their slimming world party had plates full of hot, tasty fare. Plus, if you're a beer enthusiast, spotting something like Neckoil IPA on the menu is a nice touch that could make your day. On the flip side, though, it's not all pints and cheers; there was that one off-putting experience with a staff member being quite rude over the phone, which is a shame because it can really dampen the spirit. Overall, with a solid 4.5 rating from heaps of reviews, I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go in with an open mind, and you'll likely have a grand time, but maybe handle any queries in person to avoid any hiccups.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is spot on – it's a cosy and warm spot, perfect for unwinding with friends or meeting new faces, especially with those special entertainment nights.
  • The food really hits the mark; think excellent Sunday roasts and plenty of hearty options that leave you satisfied, like at a slimming world party where everything was hot and plentiful.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, including standout beers like Neckoil IPA, making it a top choice for a post-work pint.
  • It's open seven days a week with flexible hours, so you can pop in anytime from midday onwards for a relaxed vibe.
Cons
  • Customer service can be hit or miss; one person had a really unpleasant experience with a rude staff member on the phone, which left a sour taste.
  • Based on the reviews, it seems like not every interaction is smooth, so you might want to keep expectations in check if you're calling ahead.

I called the venue politely and asked an email address of the venue to speak with someone in regards to live music venue. The lady who replied to my call on 30.01.2025 at 16:44 was very rude on the phone and unpleasant! She had a really bad customer service and rudeness and I asked her to recommend myself and she mentioned she is not able to or want to!!! The worse experience I ever had with someone! I DO NOT recommend dealing with these people

I always have an excellent time when I come here after work to enjoy a cold one ☺️ Great job to whoever put the Neckoil IPA on the menu 🌟 Give him/her a raise! Well done 👍
