About This Pub
Ah, The Castle in Harrow – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its historic charm and cosy nooks, doesn't it? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's a brilliant spot for sinking into a comfortable chair with a pint of something delicious; the selection of ales is spot on, and the staff really go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome, even when things are a tad hectic. I love how it's got that maze-like feel with different rooms to explore, and the garden area's a real treat for when the weather's playing nice. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – a few folks have mentioned that the food's gone downhill since the management changed hands, with dishes like the lamb not hitting the high notes anymore. If you're after a hearty meal, you might want to check the menu carefully, especially if you're veggie, as options are slim and what's listed online doesn't always match up. Overall, though, it's got that warm, community feel that makes it a go-to for a relaxed afternoon or evening out – I'd say give it a try for the drinks and ambiance, and maybe keep expectations in check for the grub. It's all about balance, right?

Cons
-
The food quality seems to have taken a nosedive lately, particularly after a change in management, which is a real shame for those looking for a solid meal.

Options for vegetarians are quite limited, and the menu online doesn't always match what's on offer, so you might end up disappointed if that's your focus.

This used to be one of my favorite places, especially for their amazing lamb and desserts, which were absolutely fantastic. However, after the change in management, the quality has dropped significantly. The food is nowhere near as good as it used to be. The lamb, which used to be tender and delicious, now tasted frozen or poorly prepared. They used to serve a whole leg, now it’s just two or three slices that taste nothing like before. The desserts have also lost their charm – the vanilla brownie that was once a delight is no longer on the menu, and the new desserts don’t compare at all. Plus, the prices don’t match the quality of the meal. Unfortunately, we won’t be coming back. The experience was extremely disappointing. To make matters worse, the manager seemed completely unwilling to accept any feedback. I felt uncomfortable, and in the end, after paying for a meal I wasn’t happy with, I left because it was clear she wasn’t going to take my review seriously. Picture attached how it used to be.Now is no even 5% as good as it used to be.
Lovely pub with character and great staff who are so helpful despite shortages.
Unfortunately food has gone downhill. Menu didn't reflect that online (being a vegetarian had I known the only options are a burger/risotto (winter dish on a hot day) I would've just gone for drinks. Good garden area with bar.
A Pint at The Castle: A Cozy Retreat
The Castle at Harrow on the Hill is a gem. With its inviting atmosphere and historic charm, it’s the perfect spot for a pint. The staff are friendly, and the selection of ales is top-notch. I enjoyed a smooth, well-poured pint while soaking in the cozy ambiance. It’s a place where you can truly unwind and feel at home. Cheers!
Following a nice Sunday walk on lovely Harrow on the Hill, we stopped at the Castle for Sunday lunch.
We got early and got seated for a time window (otherwise booking table is recommended).
Quite and relaxed atmosphere.
The service was very friendly and reasonably efficient considering the load.
The mains dishes were massive portions.
Sunday roast chicken on the dry side but pork belly was superb.
Noted Monday folk music evening.
Will revisit.
A super, maze of a pub, The Castle on Crown Street in Harrow is a 'must visit' to stick on the list. There is a central bar serving the two front rooms, separated by a privacy door, mind your head! There is a clock room, with clocks. A dining room, with dining tables and diners, all going well. A Fuller's pub so familiar brews for the real ale drinkers and a good variety of ked beers for the rest of us. Great friendly service. Lovely cold beer what more do you need, make an excuse and visit!
