About This Pub

You know, I had a great time at The Carlton Tavern – it's one of those proper pubs that just draws you in with its warm, chatty atmosphere and that genuine community spirit. From what I've seen in the reviews, folks like Chris and Claire absolutely love the live acts and how attentive everyone is, making it a brilliant spot for catching up with mates or enjoying a bit of music on the weekends. It's dead affordable too, so you won't feel guilty about staying for another round. On the flip side, though, it might not be the easiest place if you're heading out solo, as one reviewer mentioned feeling a bit out of sorts during a lively birthday bash – it's got that local charm, but it can be a bit cliquey at times. All in all, if you're after a down-to-earth venue in Chester for a good laugh and some tunes, it's well worth a visit, but maybe pop in with a group to get the full experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely lovely, with a real community feel that makes you feel right at home.
  • They've got cracking live music and events, like open mic nights, which add a fun, lively buzz to the place.
  • The staff and regulars are super friendly and welcoming, which is a rare treat these days.
  • It's inexpensive, so you can enjoy a cheeky pint or a night out without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit overwhelming if you're on your own, especially during busy events like parties, where you might end up in the corner like a spare part.
  • The opening hours seem a tad inconsistent from what's listed, so it's worth double-checking to avoid disappointment.

Just popped in for a cheeky pint, Chinese on order across the road,, nice enough local pub, 70th birthday party was going on, so sat in corner like Billy no mates, I used to use Carlton regularly in my early years being a Saltney lad,, but probably just a few times a year now, Cheers to all,,

I visited visited the Carlton for the 1st time last night. It was their open mike night and it was amazing. There was one singer guitarist there who was particularly amazing. He did a rendition of the Temptation's 'Papa was a Rolling Stone', one of my favourite all time songs. I cant remember ever having heard it being done so well. He had the most amazing diverse voice, he seemed to be able to do anything with it, from the highest register, to the lowest bass. Least to say I'll be back. I should add that I met some very nice, friendly people

Nice little pub, even the regulars are nice. They have live music at the weekends well worth the visit, if you get a chance.
