About This Pub

Ah, The Bridgewater – it's one of those pubs in Darwen that really pulls you in with its mix of tasty meals, from hearty Sunday roasts to a cheeky cocktail or two, and it's dead affordable too, which is always a win when you're out for a casual catch-up. I love how they've got the sports on big screens and host fun events like quizzes and live music, making it a top spot if you're up for some excitement with your pint. The staff seem to go the extra mile in making folks feel at home, and it's brilliant for dog owners since they roll out the red carpet for your four-legged friends. But, fair's fair, there have been a few grumbles about overcharging on cards, so it'd be smart to keep tabs on what you're spending. Plus, the food isn't always perfect – some have had cold or stale bits, especially with takeaways – and that no-kids-after-9pm rule might put a dampener on family outings. Overall, it's a solid choice for a good night out, as long as you go in with your eyes open to the occasional slip-up; I'd say give it a try and see what you think!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is spot on, with a cracking variety of options like pub grub, Sunday roasts, and even cocktails that hit the mark.
  • It's a proper dog-friendly spot, where they offer treats and water bowls, making it ideal for a pint with your furry mate.
  • They've got a buzzing atmosphere with live events, quizzes, and loads of sports on the telly, so there's always something going on.
  • Staff are generally attentive and friendly, as shared in a few reviews, which makes for a welcoming visit.
  • Being inexpensive, it's a great choice for a casual night out without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • There have been some dodgy billing issues, like one person getting charged way more than expected for drinks, so it's worth double-checking your tab.
  • Food quality can be hit or miss; a couple of reviews mentioned stale or cold dishes, especially with takeaways.
  • They've got a rule that no one under 18 is allowed after 9pm, which might cramp plans if you're out with the family late.
  • While it's open late, the mixed recent ratings suggest it might not always live up to expectations on busier nights.

Be careful everyone what you buy on card or by phone. I bought 2 drinks yesterday during Darwen live , 1 pint of shandy and 1 pint of lager only to realise when I got home I was charged 19.50 pending on my card ,why do bar staff never tell you how much is owed now and just point machine in your face. Just keep an eye on your purchases Replacing it with 1 star until resolved, I’ve sent them my evidence but no refund, basically scammed by the bar

Pooped in for some drinks and dinner. Food was delicious with a large variety of options to please everyone. We were taken care of by Jess and Zade, they were very attentive. Overall, would come again!!

New to the area so popped in on a Saturday late afternoon for food and drinks and with the dog too. Proper dog friendly. Treats and dog bowls for water where offered. Friendly greeting from the bar staff given the bar was busy. Our table had been reserved and we received great table service from Jenna who kept the drinks coming and was friendly. Food was decent for the price and didn't take long to arrive. Drinks also reasonably priced. We will return 👍

Ordered food from here as they propose to to do Korean takeaway (Mandu Guys). If you’re thinking of ordering from Mandu’s the new Korean place then don’t bother (pretty sure it’s a dark kitchen anyway). My partner got a chicken rice bowl, stale and cold (£10!) and these were meant to be Korean loaded fries, they were literally cheesy chips (I’m not a 19 year old girl after all night out at Levels).

Popped into here for something to eat and was not disappointed. They offer some pretty decent burger options but we saw that they did small tapas like menu items and decided to go for these. Best choice ever. All the dishes had big enough portions to satisfy 2 people, to be fair we did order 8 dishes so it would have been difficult to not have had enough food. We thoroughly enjoyed each of the dishes and will definitely be back again. Staff were really friendly also.
