About This Pub
Ah, The Botanist on Temple Street – it's one of those places that just hits the mark for a proper night out in Birmingham. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the atmosphere is spot on; it's all about that sophisticated decor mixed with a vibrant energy that gets you in the mood right away, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or a full meal with friends. The food really steals the show – think hearty roasts with gorgeous veggies and perfectly crispy potatoes, or those standout dishes like halloumi fries and adventurous cocktails that leave you wanting more. And the staff? They're an absolute delight, always polite and eager to help, which makes the whole experience feel warm and personal. On the flip side, though, it does get packed, especially with the live music and bingo nights drawing in the crowds, so you might find yourself waiting a bit or needing to book ahead to avoid disappointment. Prices are moderate, but they could add up if you're not careful, and with a couple of Botanist venues in the city, it's worth double-checking you're at the right one. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone after a bit of class and fun, but keep those potential queues in mind for the best visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's sophisticated, vibrant, and full of energy, making it a brilliant spot for catching up with mates or enjoying a special occasion.
-
The food is a real highlight; think delicious roasts, tasty cauliflower dishes, halloumi fries, and perfectly cooked meats – everything's fresh and generously portioned.
-
Staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always going the extra mile to make sure you're having a great time, which really adds to the welcoming vibe.
-
Drinks are adventurous and well-priced, with options like Porn Star Martinis that are spot on for a fun night, plus they have events like live music and bingo to keep things lively.
-
It's dog-friendly and has a lovely outdoor terrace, so you can enjoy a pint or a meal al fresco, especially on a sunny day in Birmingham.
Cons
-
It can get quite busy, especially on weekends or during events, which might mean a bit of a wait for a table or service, even if you've booked.
-
Being one of two Botanist spots in Birmingham, it's easy to mix it up with the other one, and the moderate prices might feel a tad steep for everyday visits if you're watching the pennies.
-
The operating hours are fairly standard, but with earlier starts on weekends, it might not suit late-night crowds looking for somewhere open much past midnight on weekdays.

Overall amazing experience
We LOVED our dinner at the Botanist and highly recommend it. First of all, the cauliflower is the best of our lives! The halloumi fries and gambas were also really good. The Peri Peri chicken was so good and dang those veggies were perfect too. We loved every drink esp the porn star martini and the lavender lemon Collins. The wait and bar staff were amazing. It was such a wonderful experience!
Roast dinner was great - good portions and extra sharing sides if wanted. Potatoes and veg in particular were gorgeous. Staff are all absolutely lovely and can’t do enough for you. Place itself is great too!
We came today for a Sunday Roast after a party night. AMAZING!
Nice portions, good food quality. Gravy was handmade and the meat was perfectly cooked (I had pork and it was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside)
Vinny has been so kind to us, checking if everything was alright and being so fast on any command needed :)
