About This Pub

Ah, The Boat – it's one of those spots that just feels like a proper local gem, nestled right by the canal in Catherine-de-Barnes. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are absolute legends, always on hand with a smile and top-notch service that makes you feel right at ease. The food's a real highlight too; they've got some cracking vegan dishes and fresh seasonal menus that hit the spot, whether you're popping in for a quick bite or a full meal. That garden area is brilliant for a lazy afternoon with friends, soaking up the sun and enjoying the views – it's just the ticket for al fresco fun. And with events like happy hours and special tastings, there's always something to liven things up. But, fair play, it's not all perfect; it can get pretty packed, leading to a bit of a wait for your table or drinks, and the parking situation might leave you scratching your head. Plus, if you're vegan, the options are decent but not extensive, so you might have to plan ahead. Overall, with a solid rating like 4.2, it's well worth a visit for a relaxed pint and chat, as long as you go in with realistic expectations – it's a winner for good times, but like any spot, it has its little quirks.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • The food is delicious, with tasty vegan options and exciting new seasonal menus that keep things fresh and appealing.
  • It's got a lovely canal-side location with a large garden that's perfect for enjoying al fresco dining on a sunny day.
  • They host regular events and happy hours, like the Thursday and Friday specials, adding a fun vibe to your visit.
  • The atmosphere is warm and inviting, great for catching up with mates or treating yourself to a relaxed meal.
Cons
  • Vegan choices are a bit limited, so if you're after more variety, you might find it lacking.
  • Some menu items, like certain mocktails, can be unavailable, which is a shame when you're in the mood for something specific.
  • Parking is free but often gets busy and chaotic, making it tricky to sort out when you're arriving.
  • It can get really crowded, especially on nice days, so you might end up waiting a while for service or a table.

Cant recommend enough! The waiters were lovely and the vegan options were delicious! I had the arancini and the cherry and almond crumble but there was also a vegan risotto that looked very good too. Has a large garden perfect for Al fresco summer dining and with some covered areas with heaters for winter too. Plus it’s next to the canal for a stroll after food.

Limited vegan options, but tasty. The desert was fab. 3 out of 6 mocktails were not available. Parking is free, but busy. I got blocked by someone who can't park and at 8 months pregnant I couldn't get into my properly parked car. Overall, it's a nice place and we'll be back.

Absolutely stunning restaurant! The staff were so friendly and accommodating and I can't fault the service. I wish I remember the ladies name who waited in our table! The food was incredible, everything was perfect and considering there were 14 of us, it all came out timely! We were sitting inside, and I only wished that we had booked outside (if we even could). The outdoor area is lovely!!

It was very busy at the boat the sun brought lots of people out. We didn’t pre-book as there was only 2 of us and we managed to find a seating outdoors. The staff were very attentive although very busy. So expect to wait a little in getting drinks and food. We ordered chicken roast with sides and fish/chips. Everything was so flavoursome and the portions were a good size. There was much left on the plates. Had a very nice treat chocolate fudge mouse with a very delicious ice cream. Everything was so nicely presented. Would 💯 recommend the boat and also it’s a great place for mid week after work. There is a nice relaxed charm about the venue and it attracts all ages and backgrounds. Never felt intimidated being there.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Brought mom here for her Birthday tonight… the atmosphere is friendly yet has a sense of occasion. The service was impeccable - we arrived 5 mins after the kitchen closed and were still served the full menu. All of our food was incredible - so colourful, well presented and most importantly, delicious!! To top of the evening, we were given a pudding on the house… with a candle! Oh, and they’re dog friendly! 🐾 Thanks to all at The Boat who have made tonight so special, we will be back soon.
