About This Pub

Ah, The Black Swan In Hand – it's one of those local spots in Nuneaton that feels like a bit of a hidden gem for anyone after an inexpensive pint or a simple lunch. From the reviews, it sounds like they've got the basics right, with affordable prices that make it easy to pop in without planning your wallet around it, and the service comes across as genuinely friendly, which always makes a difference when you're settling in for a chat. There's a lively buzz with the regulars, and it's nice to hear that you can actually hold a conversation without shouting over the noise, even if the music isn't quite to everyone's taste. On the downside, though, some folks have mentioned a whiff of unpleasant smells that could really spoil the mood, and the whole place has that traditional, no-nonsense feel which might come off as a bit worn out to those after something more polished. All in all, it's a decent choice if you're in the area and fancy a relaxed outing with mates, but I'd say go in with your eyes open – it's got charm, but it's not without its rough patches, so you'll get what you pay for in the best possible way.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got that classic affordable vibe, with inexpensive drinks and meals that won't break the bank, making it perfect for a casual get-together.
  • The service is spot on – friendly and welcoming, which really adds to the homely feel when you're popping in for a quick one.
  • You'll find a lively atmosphere with plenty of locals, ideal for a chat and some good company without it feeling too quiet.
  • From what folks say, the place keeps things clean, especially the facilities, so you can relax without any worries there.
Cons
  • There can be some off-putting smells, like urine, which might put a dampener on your visit and make it hard to enjoy your drink.
  • It's got an old-fashioned, no-frills setup that some might find a bit dated or rough around the edges, not everyone's cup of tea.
  • The music choice isn't always a hit, as it can feel a tad mismatched and disrupt the flow of conversation.

Old fashioned spit and sawdust kind of place, cheapish beer, a lot of locals go there.

It has changed a bit since I last went in (but that was probably 10 years ago). Service was good and friendly. The atmosphere was OK. I wasn't a big fan of the music being played, but it wasn't too bad. My friend and I could talk without shouting, so that was nice! Some of the seats and tables were a little worn. Toilets clean, stocked, and working.
