About This Pub

Ah, The Bishop Blaize – it's one of those dependable Wetherspoons pubs that you can always count on for a solid night out in Manchester. Tucked away near Old Trafford, it's just the ticket if you're after a cheap pint and some hearty grub before or after a match. I love how the place buzzes with energy, especially with all the football memorabilia dotted around, making it feel like a proper community hub. The staff are genuinely welcoming, and the food hits the spot every time – think classic comfort dishes that don't disappoint. On the downside, it does get absolutely heaving on game days, so you might end up waiting in line, and they've had moments where the beer choices were a bit limited, which is a shame during events like festivals. All in all, it's a cracking choice for a casual catch-up with mates, as long as you're up for a bit of hustle and bustle – just go with the flow and you'll have a great time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Affordable prices make it a brilliant spot for a budget-friendly pint and meal without breaking the bank.
  • The atmosphere is electric, especially with all the Manchester United memorabilia, perfect for soaking up that footie vibe.
  • Friendly staff who really make you feel at home, adding a warm touch to your visit.
  • Reliably tasty comfort food and a decent selection of beers on tap for a satisfying pub experience.
  • Spotlessly clean facilities, like the ladies' toilets, which is always a plus for a comfortable stay.
Cons
  • It can get incredibly busy, particularly on match days, leading to long queues that might put a damper on things.
  • The beer selection sometimes falls short, such as only having Guinness during a beer festival, which is a bit disappointing.
  • When it's packed, the crowds can make it feel a tad overwhelming and less relaxing for a quiet chat.

Pub Review near Old Trafford, Manchester ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ If you're visiting Old Trafford and looking for a classic British pub experience, this place hits the spot. Just a short walk from the stadium, The Bishop Blaize offers a solid mix of comfort food, good beer, and a lively football atmosphere — especially on match days. 🍕 Food The pizza was surprisingly good for a pub – generous toppings, crispy edges, and nicely balanced flavors. Perfect for sharing with a pint. The fish and chips were classic – golden, crunchy batter and thick-cut chips, served with tartar sauce. It’s not gourmet, but it’s exactly what you'd want from a traditional pub. 🍺 Drinks They’ve got a decent beer selection on tap – from lagers like Coors to darker options like Guinness or a local ale. Prices are reasonable, and they often have offers (like £1.99 cask ales). The pint glasses even have custom designs which add a fun local touch. 🎯 Atmosphere Inside, it's a football fan's haven – decked out with memorabilia, screens showing live sports, and a buzzing crowd when matches are on. Outside seating is a bonus on sunny days, and there’s even space to get some work done with a pint in hand. 👥 Service Staff were friendly and efficient even when it was busy. The menu is straightforward and easy to navigate, and you won’t be waiting long for your food or drinks. 💸 Value for Money You’re getting exactly what you pay for — big portions, solid drinks, and a front-row seat to local pub culture. Ideal before or after catching a match. 📍 Location Right on the route to Old Trafford, it’s a perfect pit stop. Expect crowds on game day, so arrive early if you want a seat!

Great Wetherspoons pub. Not far from Manchester Uniteds football ground so I assume it gets busy on match days. Lots of Man United memorabilia inside. Only problem for me was the only stout they had, was Guinness. And this was during a beer festival. Very clean ladies toilets, nice decor 👍

Lovely pub near the ground. Great atmosphere. Singing and chanting nonstop. Friendly staff and friendly punters (Irish ppl). Good selection of beers on tap. (please note - there are queues and numbers headcounts; we arrived 2 1/2 hours before kickoff and it was busy!; you have to pay £1 coin to get in!) ... At £4.25 a pint for Brewdog Punk IPA... Steal. Definitely coming back! RECOMMEND.
