About This Pub

Ah, The Bird in Hand – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of the Black Country, with its rich history and that legendary Bathams brew that's just spot on for a relaxing evening. You'll love sinking into the cosy interior or heading out to the beer garden on a nice day; the staff are always up for a chat, and the prices won't break the bank, making it a solid choice for a casual get-together. On the flip side, it's worth noting that things can slip a bit with the glassware or the food not always being up to scratch – I've heard a few tales of stale cobs and slower service, which might frustrate you if you're after something quick. Overall, it's a gem for beer enthusiasts, but if you're picky about the finer details, you might want to keep expectations in check. Give it a go if you're in Stourbridge; it's got that authentic pub charm that makes you feel right at home, warts and all.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer is absolutely spot on – especially that Bathams bitter, which is a proper treat and keeps everyone coming back for more.
  • Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere make it feel like you're chatting with old mates in a cosy spot.
  • Excellent prices mean you can enjoy a pint without worrying about the wallet.
  • A lovely beer garden and warm interior provide a great escape, whether you're soaking up the sun or hiding from the rain.
Cons
  • Some reports of dirty glasses, which can put a dampener on an otherwise nice pint.
  • Food service tends to be a bit slow, and things like cobs might not always be fresh, so it's not the best for a quick bite.
  • They sometimes prioritise the regulars, which might leave newcomers feeling a tad overlooked at the bar.

Aaah, Bathams...takes me back to my youth. Proper beer in a proper pub. Friendly locals, friendly staff. Excellent prices. Good enough to make even Bob Hill happy. Say hello to my Brother and sister in law.

The beer glasses are really dirty shame cause it’s a nice pint Told the bar lady who regularly works there and seemed like there was no listening The food is ok doesn’t move fast so some cobs can be stale and the pub hygiene and clean ness could do with lots of attention

A good pub, they do favour serving regulars over who has gotten to the bar first but if you can accept that then Bathams is the best pint local. There are better bathams pubs though further afield.
