About This Pub

Ah, The Bear in Rugby – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hangout, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the food's come on leaps and bounds lately, with brilliant options like their chicken burger and fish and chips that have people raving. Pair that with friendly staff who go the extra mile to make sure you're looked after, and you've got a spot that's spot-on for watching live sports or enjoying a pint in the beer garden. It's dead welcoming for families and even lets you bring the dog along, which is always a bonus for a relaxed day out. On the flip side, it's not all perfect – there was that one mention of a dessert that fell flat, like the Eton mess that didn't quite live up to expectations and felt a tad overpriced. And if it's a busy day, you might have to wait a bit for your meal, so perhaps give it a ring first. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out or a casual meal, with that community feel that makes it stand out in Rugby.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with standout dishes like the chicken burger and fish and chips that keep folks coming back for more.
  • Staff are super friendly and really make you feel welcome, even when things get a bit hectic.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere, especially for catching live sports or chilling in the beer garden with the family.
  • Being family and dog-friendly is a real plus – it's a welcoming spot for everyone, including your four-legged mates.
  • Great value for money, particularly with their new Super Saver Menu that's perfect for a traditional pub lunch without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be hit or miss, like that Eton mess which was a bit of a disappointment and not worth the price.
  • There might be a wait for food when it's busy, so it's worth planning ahead if you're popping in during peak times.

This is our favourite pub. I have to admit that when we moved here in 2023, the food was not that good, however, something has changed, and they have the best chicken burger ever. My husband and daughter love fish and chips. The staff is really nice and gentle, and the atmosphere is superb, especially in summer. We love the board games too!

I have eaten here a number of times. The main was nice today but the dessert (Eton mess) was complete slop. Lacking in any meringue. Might be worth looking at the recipe again. Not nice or worth £6.50.

We went to the bear for Christmas dinner 2024. This was the first time that the pub had done Christmas dinner under the new management and it was absolutely fantastic. The food was great. The staff were even better and we really enjoyed ourselves. Just like to say a big thank you to Michael and his team for making the day special. Definitely value for money and we hope to come back next year.

Seven of us went in today for a bit of lunch. We knew it might be busy but we took our chances. 20 to 30 minute wait for food was explained as we ordered. Not a problem. When the food came it was delicious. The service was spot on and we could tell that the staff were slightly stressed with it being so busy, but they delivered and made us very happy. Thank you so much The Bear.

Great place to eat, never been before and I have to say the food was delicious, portion size was perfect, vegtables were delicious and the beef was cooked perfectly. Atmosphere was really good with the football on. The staff were really friendly and considering how busy the pub was the service was impeccable. Will definitely be going back.
