About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Ball House, it really stands out as one of those pubs that gets the basics right while adding a bit of heart. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome, whether you're just nipping in for a quick pint or settling in for a full meal – and the food sounds fantastic, with glowing reviews about the Sunday lunches and overall quality. It's got that community spirit nailed, earning awards for being family and dog-friendly, and the beer garden is a gem when the sun's out, hosting live music and supporting local charities. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect; a couple of folks mentioned it feeling a bit cold inside, which could be a nuisance on chillier days, and it might not always have that lively atmosphere if you're there during quieter hours. Still, with such a strong overall rating, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area – just wrap up warm and check the times first. All in all, it's a solid spot that balances tradition with a welcoming feel, making it a great choice for anyone looking for an honest, enjoyable pub experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
The food is absolutely spot on – think hearty, authentic pub meals that leave you satisfied, with options for families and even larger portions if you fancy.
-
It's a proper community hub, with awards for being family-friendly and supporting local causes, plus a cracking beer garden that comes alive in the summer with live music.
-
Dog-friendly vibes all the way – your furry friends are not only allowed but treated like part of the family, which is a lovely touch.
-
High marks for atmosphere; it's got that classic English pub charm, with a roaring fire and local beers that make it feel timeless and relaxing.
Cons
-
It can get a bit chilly inside sometimes, which might put a dampener on things if you're visiting on a cooler day.
-
The place might feel quiet or lacking in buzz if you're there at off-peak times, as one visit mentioned it being empty.
-
Operating hours seem a tad confusing from what I've seen, with multiple listings for Sundays, so it's worth double-checking before you head out to avoid disappointment.
-
While it's generally brilliant, there was a mention of it not being the warmest spot temperature-wise, which could be a minor downside in winter.

Was just a chance passing that brought us to The Ball House. We were hungry and popped in 15 mins before they stopped serving food.
We were the only ones in, so can't judge atmosphere, but it's a lovely little pub, with friendly staff.
The food was really lovely. I'm very happy we stumbled across this place!
Fantastic impromptu meal at the ball house this evening . We were a family of 7, hadn’t booked a table and with a little bit of moving around , they accommodated us superbly. The food quality and service was faultless. It was the most welcoming pub/restaurant we’ve been in at boston for a long time . Top marks all round, we will most definitely be going there again … very soon 😊
Perfect spot if you are looking for a quiet meal or have a drink to relax. We just ran across The Ball House and I am so glad we did. Truly authentic English pub meal with local beers to sample. When you walk in you feel like you step back in time. A roaring fire in the fireplace, a lovely man behind the bar, it felt like a movie. #GoogleGal
Ok, so , I want to be honest here. I’ve never been in this place, seen it all my life and used the car park probably a hundred times as a meeting place.
The young man opened the door and was more than welcoming. I mean he really was. The trouble is, the place was freezing and all we went in for was a cup of tea and I think it was from a machine and it tasted of hard water. I don’t want to leave this place a bad review but I do write reviews and it was certainly bad tea. The boy with the pierced eyebrows was lovely though.
Not the first time we've been here, but the first time we've taken the dog with us. We were all made to feel welcome...the dog was definitely spoiled! Food was lovely as always. Regular portion was ample for us, although there is the choice of a large if required. Staff are all very friendly, pleasant and helpful.
