About This Pub

Ah, The Bailie Bar – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a friendly local you could pop into any time, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are absolute stars; they're quick to chat, super accommodating, and really make the place shine, whether you're a regular or just passing through. The atmosphere is spot on too – imagine sinking into a comfy spot by the fire with a pint in hand, enjoying the laid-back vibe that's perfect for watching live sport or catching up with mates. The drinks menu is a winner, offering a solid selection of beers, whiskies, and cocktails that won't break the bank, and the food's generally good for pub fare, with highlights like haggis and steak that hit the spot after a day of exploring. On the flip side, it's not the place for fancy dining – the grub is tasty enough but nothing to write home about, and prices have nudged up a little, which might make you think twice if you're watching the pennies. All in all, it's a reliable spot for a great night out in Edinburgh, especially if you're after that classic pub experience with a bit of live music or a quiz to liven things up – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a lovely, relaxed atmosphere – think cosy fires and a classic old-school vibe that's perfect for unwinding.
  • The drinks selection is spot on, with a great range of beers, whiskies, and cocktails at reasonable prices.
  • Food hits the mark for pub grub; things like haggis and steak come out tasty and satisfying, especially for a quick lunch.
  • Brilliant location in a charming Edinburgh neighbourhood, plus fun extras like live music, sports screenings, and a weekly quiz night.
Cons
  • The food doesn't stand out as anything extraordinary – it's solid but not particularly innovative.
  • Prices for meals have crept up a bit lately, so it might feel a tad pricey for what you get.

I’d rate this as my local, I pop in for a beer or two sometimes on my own, other times for a bite to eat too with friends. The staff are very welcoming and warm and always quick to observe who is wanting served. The bar is very relaxed, nice food (although prices have sneaked up a little bit), nice clientele too and shows the football. A great pub and well worth a visit

The best waitress I have ever met! Super friendly, cheerful, funny and happy to modify our order to our liking. Absolutely love their haggis. The cocktails, beer and whisky is so great and come with a really good price. Honestly, my best experience in Edinburgh 🫶🏻

Not been in the Bailie bar for many years and am pleased to say it's just the same as it always was, a classic old brown bar. Great selection of beer at the bar, the food was good and we enjoyed our visit. Well good! Lovely staff, great food!

As another said - what a little gem! We stopped in for lunch while exploring the city. I had the 6oz steak and egg with chips and peppercorn sauce. It was fabulous. My friend also enjoyed her lasagna. The service and atmosphere was great. We sat by the fire, which was cozy. Definitely recommend!
