About This Pub

Ah, Teuchters – it's one of those Edinburgh gems that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks are raving about the food; whether it's the hearty steak pie or that traditional haggis that's got everyone talking, it's clear they put real effort into making meals that stick with you. Pair that with a solid lineup of Scottish beers and you're in for a treat. The staff come across as genuinely warm and eager to help, which makes the whole experience feel more like catching up with mates than just grabbing a bite. On the flip side, it does get packed, so you might find yourself waiting for a spot or dealing with a slower pace if you're not proactive at the bar – but hey, that's the charm of a popular spot, isn't it? All in all, if you're after a relaxed afternoon or evening with good grub and drinks, I'd say give it a go; it's got that balance of fun and reliability that makes it a standout choice.

Pros and Cons

Cons
  • Service can sometimes drag a bit if you're sitting and waiting, so it's worth popping up to the bar if you're in a rush or feeling peckish.
  • It tends to get really crowded, especially around meal times, which might mean you'll need to book ahead to snag a table without hassle.

I was meeting a friend on 2 June who was travelling down from Aberdeen to have lunch and a drink. We decided to try Teuchters as I'd often drank in the pub but never had a meal. I was glad we went as our meal was really lovely. My friend had the sausage and mash meal and I opted for the steak pie. Both meals were 5/5 and I'd happily recommend either. Would go back again.

A typical English pub with a good variety of local and Scottish beers. Food is also good. Service needs improvement if you sit and wait-instead go to the bar and ask if you are short in time or hungry.

We told some of our friends that we wanted to try good haggis, and this was a recommendation. It tends to get busy after lunch and into dinner so I recommend you make reservations. The staff is incredibly helpful and can answer any questions about the menu and great drinks. The food was incredibly flavorful and filling.

I was on the hunt for a place to try some whisky and classic fish and chips—exactly what any tourist should do when visiting the UK! Teuchters was close to where we were staying and had great reviews, which turned out to be absolutely true. The prices were fair, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was exactly what you'd hope for in a proper pub—warm, welcoming, and full of character. The food really impressed us: generous portions, well-prepared, and clearly made with quality ingredients. I went for the whisky "flying taste" and it made the whole experience feel even more authentically Scottish. Highly recommended!

A excellent dinner experience! The service was fantastic, quick & friendly. It was super busy when we arrived but with a bit of juggling were shown to a table in a quiet corner. We had the Haggis, neets & tatters and the grilled chicken, both meals were excellent paired with a pint of Edinburgh black. PS. We have now been here for 3 meals this week. I would also highly recommend the Cullen skink ( the soap was so tasty) & the fish & chips were for me the best in Scotland. Crunchy & fresh with awesome chips. Highly recommend this place as a must go!
