About This Pub

Ah, The Alpha Arms – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local spot in Slough, you know? I had a wander in the other day, and what stood out was how they've kept that old-school charm with a neat garden and a couple of rooms to settle into. The real ales are spot on, especially if you're partial to something like Courage, and it's all at prices that won't break the bank. Plus, the staff are an absolute treat; I heard about Frances and how she makes everyone feel right at home – it's those little touches that make a visit memorable. There's plenty to keep you entertained too, with a pool table, dartboard, and a jukebox playing tunes that get the conversation flowing. On the downside, it can be a bit tricky if you're not a familiar face; the regulars might eye you up a touch suspiciously at first, which is a pity as it takes away from the warmth a bit. And with no food on offer for now, you'd have to plan ahead if you're after more than just drinks. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a chat, especially if you're up for that authentic pub experience, but it might not suit everyone straight off the bat.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got that classic traditional pub vibe with a cosy garden and two rooms, perfect for a relaxed pint.
  • They serve up a great selection of real ales, like Courage on handpump, and it's all at reasonable prices.
  • The staff are spot on – someone like Frances really makes you feel at home with their excellent service.
  • There's a pool table, dartboard, and even a jukebox, which adds to the fun and lively atmosphere.
  • The place is clean and bright, with comfortable seating in the garden for those sunny days.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit unwelcoming at first if you're not a regular; the locals might give you a suspicious look.
  • No food is being served right now, so you'll have to pop elsewhere if you're after a bite to eat.
  • The atmosphere might come across as a tad civil but not overly warm, especially for newcomers.

Little traditional pub in a terrace off Slough High St. Garden and two rooms. Courage on handpump when we visited.

We pop in once a week, clean and bright. Serve various real ales, the pool table is outside of the bar in the conservatory area. Comfortable table chairs in the garden. Great juke box and pleasant atmosphere. No food served at the moment. Hoping the kitchen will open soon.

Civil but not hugely welcoming. Locals looked suspiciously at us when we came in, and weren't noticeably warmer on our departure. Which might just be up. Courage Best was in excellent condition. Inexpensive, too. Pool table and dartboard. Proper old fashioned place.
