About This Pub

Ah, The Alma Inn – it's one of those places that really grows on you if you're after a straightforward pub experience with a bit of an international flair. I have to say, the food stands out as a highlight; they've got this mouth-watering menu packed with fresh daily options, from spicy curries to hearty grills, and it's all at prices that won't leave you shocked when the bill comes. It's especially great for families, with kids' menus and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and enjoy. The staff are often lovely and chatty, adding to that homely pub vibe, and with an overall rating hovering around 4.5, it's clear plenty of folks have had cracking times there. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses – I've heard a few tales of service slipping up, like ignoring a request to turn down the music, which can make conversations a bit tricky. Then there's the odd complaint about the bathrooms needing a freshen-up, and some meals coming out a touch bland, which is a shame when the rest sounds so promising. Still, if you're in Walsall and fancy a casual night out, I'd say give it a go; it's got that solid pub charm with room for improvement, and who knows, you might just have a brilliant evening despite the minor hiccups.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food menu is absolutely brilliant, with a diverse range offering everything from tasty curries and jerk chicken to mixed grills – it's a real treat for anyone wanting variety without breaking the bank.
  • The staff are generally warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home, especially if you're popping in for a casual bite or a pint.
  • It's super family-friendly, with options for kids and fresh daily dishes that cater to all ages, plus it's inexpensive so you get fantastic value.
  • The overall vibe is relaxed and traditional, with a trendy dining twist that's perfect for a laid-back evening out.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit inconsistent at times, like when staff don't quite respond to simple requests, which might leave you feeling a tad overlooked.
  • The bathrooms have had some complaints about smells, which isn't ideal and could put a damper on your visit.
  • Food quality isn't always spot-on; a few folks mentioned bland dishes, so it might not hit the mark every time.
  • If it's quiet, the atmosphere can feel a bit lacking, making it less lively than you'd hope for a pub outing.

Overall the Alma is a charming pub, great selection of food and beers, service was good and staff friendly. The curry house at the rear is always busy but accommodating. Great experience.

Food was tasty and service was good. Staff was non cooperative, we twice requested to low the music volume so that we may easily talk to each other but the staff turned deaf ear to our request. Bathroom was also too much smelling.

I was the only one in there so obviously no atmosphere which would be expected.. I didn't mind the time I waited for my food as I was the only one in there ..staff very friendly and pleasant...food was very bland boring and the fish was definitely frozen I had a mixed grill.never again I was actually starving when I got there... very disappointing

Went as a large group so lots of different meals being served. I opted for a small mixed grill and it was OK, the pakora tasted of flour and had no real flavour but the rest was OK. Seating seemed OK and the place wasn't busy at all. Would I go again? Not sure.
