About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Alfred Arms, it's got this real homely feel that makes it a great place to pop in for a chat and a drink. The staff, particularly Sharlene, are just lovely – always up for a bit of banter and making sure you're looked after, which really adds to the atmosphere. The decor's been done up nicely, all fresh and inviting, and that smoking area is a proper gem with its heaters and seating, ideal for stepping out without missing the game on the telly. On the flip side, though, the prices can sting a bit; it's a pity when you're expecting a bargain and end up paying more than at the local down the road. And honestly, service can be hit or miss – some visits are spot on, but others might leave you wishing for a bit more attention, like getting the lowdown on any deals going. All in all, it's worth swinging by if you're in Borehamwood for a pint and some good company, just go in with your eyes open to get the best out of it.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant, especially Sharlene, who makes everyone feel right at home with her warm and friendly service.
-
The decor is lovely and freshly renovated, giving the place a welcoming and cosy atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed evening.
-
They've got a top-notch smoking area out back with TVs, heat lamps, and plenty of seating, which is a real bonus on a chilly night.
-
The beer selection is spot on, with great options that hit the mark for a traditional pub experience.
Cons
-
Drinks can feel a bit steep, like paying over the odds for a pint when it's cheaper elsewhere – it's a shame when you're just after a quick one.
-
Service isn't always consistent; some folks have mentioned unhelpful moments, such as not being clued in on promotions, which can leave you feeling a tad overlooked.

I popped in here a week ago and paid £5.55 for a pint can of alcohol free guinness, the same drink in most pubs i frequent is £3.50. Very overpriced.
I visit most days with some friends and we always receive a warm welcome and great friendly service from a lady who tells me her name is Sharlene. She makes this pub the friendly and inviting pub that it is. Sharlene is a credit to the place. Can you please thank her from my friends and myself
Lovely decor and very pleased to see a great smoking area out of the back of the building. There are televisions, heat lamps and plenty of seating. The lady behind the bar was very engaging and welcoming. I will return.
I had a disappointing experience at a local pub where the customer service was unfriendly and unhelpful. I purchased two drinks without being informed about the Friday night promotion of free shots after 9 PM with every purchase. When I returned and explained that I hadn't received my complimentary shots, the waitress, who hadn't served me, flatly refused, stating she wouldn't honor it. I asked about her colleague, and she pointed to someone on the right, mentioning that they could only offer one shot per purchase without even inquiring about my preference. Overall, it was a costly and unpleasant experience. I won't be returning, and I cannot recommend it.
Of course it's getting 5 stars - it's our first British pub. It was lovely inside - recently renovated. Beer was great as expected.
